I would have to say sony is better at racing also. Granted Mario Kart and Gran Turismo are completely different experiences and should be different genres, but Sony also has Modnation Racers which is better than MK in a lot of aspects, and worse than it in a lot of aspects.

I'd say racing is the one genre they're fairly even in, though they have differing strengths.  Sony's more diverse and comprehensive (GT, MNR, Motorstorm, WipEout, etc) while Nintendo's more experimental and tends to focus on purer arcadey design (Mario Kart, Excite series, lighttrax, etc).  I would also say this may have been Nintendo's weakest generation for racers though, with F-Zero, Wave Race and 1080 being no-shows.

In general, I'd say Sony wins out in FPS/TPS, survival horror, beat 'em ups and sandboxes, racing's pretty even, and Nintendo takes the rest (platformers, puzzlers, adventure, fighters, RPGs, strategy, shooters, etc).
