Yep for whatever reason windows won't give you the option (well it didn't hive me the option), hence my link. Windows won't format anything larger than 32GB or something.

You will need the firmware so far as i know.

Who knows the drive you buy might already be fat 32 format. Anyway you always want fat32 cause then you can use the HDD with windows, ps3, mac, linux etc.
