You seem to know what you're at, so i'll only advise you get an external HDD thats larger than 500GB if you can afford it. Won't last if you have lots of movies, music and backup ps3 laptops etc. Also remeber to format your drives to fat 32. Your ps3 drive should automatically format to fat32, but you may have to format the external drive yourself. Oh and make sure you have firmware update 3.41 on a usb stick. I think its something like PS3(folder)/UPDATE(folder)/3.41(or whatever the update file is called) and the installation works fine. Anyway just google it and you'll find instructions.

Enjoy the bigger hard drive. Its well worth it.

Just wondering, but why would I need the new firmware on a usb stick? Can't I just download the updates on my PS3? I mean sure it'd be quicker to do it this way, but I'll still check google anyway to see how to do it, lol.

And yeah I'll format the External HDD using my PC anyway, pretty simple procedure that any nutjob should be able to do, lol.

Thanks for the info!

Just going on my experience of replacing my HDD it asks for the firmware to be 3.41. Probably so you can't replace your HDD and jailbreak your ps3 with earlier firmware. Sony think these things through.

Sorry just left a link as windows wont format to fat32. Not saying your a tard lol, just wouldn't want you to put films etc on a NTFS format and not be able to use it with your ps3, and then have to format like my friend did. Not the end of the world but annoying :)
