I agree with what you said about Nintendo having other plans for the Wii. In that "Letter from the President" statement that Iwata maked it sounds like, as many have stated before, that it will BASICALLY be a new gen when Nintendo releases the next Wii.
Personally I was hoping that Nintendo would handle their console business like their handheld business, heck they still could cause the DS Lite from different from the Phat, and so on. It's kinda how MS did the revision of the 360, adding Wi-Fi instead of just making it slimmer with a bigger hard disk.
The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!
