It's not that you are the only one.  It's probably that most people were stunned that a game set in a Western setting turned out as good as it did.  They only had stuff like Red Dead Revolver, Call of Juarez, etc. to compare to.  Rockstar put a ton of effort in to making the Western setting.  They even took inspiration from what were considered by many to be the best Western movies ever made.
