Not Nintendo. Not even with Zelda.

If the media has moved the goalposts out such that Zelda no longer qualifies as a big game?

Yeah, i can see that happening, actually :/

I think part of Nintendo's problem is presentation.  Last year they showed four awesome new games, yet the show overall was pretty slow.  Then you look at Microsoft, who is credited by most for "winning" E308 based on the shock value of the FFXIII announcement alone.  Everybody seems to care more about being entertained rather than recieving actual meaningful announcements, something I think is pretty sad.

Its not only that.  It also ties into the heavy media bias.  I know I know, a lot of people are going to start screaming bloody murder because they think the media isn't obsessing over the HD consoles enough.  But when you really look at game coverage, any game coverage, it comes down to the fact that 'major' game magazines/online sources claim there's 'not enough core games' for Wii and DS all the time.  Yet what do they do?  They completely ignore nearly 99% of games on those systems, while hyping up everything on the HD consoles.

The same thing happens at E3.  Unless Nintendo announces something that totally conforms to the 'medias' pre-concieved views of what a good game is, they aren't interested.  And the internet hate machine follows suit.  Case in point, Nintendo can announce a new IP and the media totally ignores it or even makes fun of it, such as was the case for a number of past games like Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Nintendogs and the Wii itself.  The only reason the media pays attention to these series now adays is because they are making millions.

Its as if the media only cares about Mario, Zelda, Metroid and anything that looks like a Teen rated game (aka Sin and Punishment 2, Xenoblade, Last Story, etc).
