Halo is a huge franchise.
PS3 has a smaller install base
Microsoft advertises better
Some PS3s are just used as Blu-ray players.

Many Xbox360 owners pirate their games. - I think this can offset the above bolded reason no?

Honestly i havent met a 360 user who pirates games tho they are out there, they just arent a huge group like 10% of users, maybe they are like 1-2 % tops , 400k-800k users

You obviously underestimate the piracy problem with the 360. Microsoft banned over 1 million consoles for piracy on the release of modern warfare 2, this was just the biggest of the banwaves. Theres likely still a few million more 360 consoles out there which either didn't get banned, have moved to undetectable hacks or play offline.

Back on topic. I believe the success of the 360s first party games lies with the extra year it had on the PS3. The 360 was left to be the pioneer of HD gaming for that year and all the franchises that came with it, Gears, Halo 3 (already big but got bigger with HD) and so on became known as must have titles. The fact that theres plenty of other games that do the same out there now gets forgotten.

Look at how people still hype Halo after the innovation and success of the first and second game, theres plenty of other games that offer the same and arguably better experiences but people still bang on about Halo because of it was the first franchise to bring the ideas and techniques to people. I bet theres plenty of phones out there now that are better than the I-Phone but because the I-Phone was the first touch screen phone to do it well people still hype it up to hell (look at the I-Pad).
