Why did Sony establish trophies into every new game? Why is it nowadays a must-have for every available game and why are some gamers not buying games which do not support trophies (Valkyria Chronicles is unfortunately one of them).  It’s a pity to see some games being left on the shelves or read comments like “I’m not buying this since it doesn’t have any trophies”. The trophy system is probably an answer to Microsoft’s achievement system and in times where producing games is expensive as never before and playing times get sometimes ridiculously short, these kind of “little successes” are a great opportunity to make the player complete the game exhaustively. I know that it’s not an obligation to get Platinum in every single game or to replay a game three to four times in a row. Nevertheless, I feel a kind of pressure to have 100% in a game. I want everything to be done, otherwise it doesn’t feel “right”. I want to get that platinum and gold trophy, no matter how much time it costs and I even put up with countless hours of pure frustration or boredom. What even worse is, that if I look at my trophy profile, I see some games with only 1%, 12% etc. and I am not really able to tell you why, but it’s annoying me to know, that I stopped playing some games although I didn’t like them. Why isn’t there a function to ban some trophies out of your profile or delete the trophy installing?  Am I the only one who has this bizarre behavior or do trophies even affect your choice of buying certain games or not?  I for one have to admit, that I wanted to play Star Ocean: The Last Hope but the fact that gaining its trophies is partly that hard, that you have to sacrifice a large amount of free time only to get some bronze trophies, discouraged me pretty much. It’s a love-hate relationship between that virtual, pathetic prove of an insignificant “success” and the addiction to collect them all. Sometimes, I would like to see them being abolished from every game and sometimes, it makes indeed even fun to hunt them. Excuse me for my limited ability to express my thoughts in English, but I guess you know for sure what I am trying to tell you.

Owners of the Xbox360 or other consoles are also free to discuss that phenomenon or express their own point of view since this mechanic isn’t only to be found at the PS3 of course. I'm currently hunting for trophies in Final Fantasy XIII by the way and grinding is not that much fun but simultaneously it is. Help?!

I don't have his problem because I am emotionally stable and video games aren't important to me beyond the recreation of them.
