Alright, now you're pissing me off even more. Stop being so "cute." It's irritating. Anywho, what you showed me doesn't make Cait Sith useful. The probability of getting that is so incredibly small that it's like claiming that Setzer doesn't suck (even then, he's still useful). Each of the characters in FF6 are unique and useful in their own ways, even if some aren't as good as others. Cait Sith is pathetically weak and actually almost ruins the main quest for the characters (secret doll working for Shinra anyone?). Even characters like Gogo and Umaro have their own little uses. This kind of strength is replicated in Final Fantasy 9, too. Each of the characters kicks some serious ass, and none of them are bad at all.

K. First of all, I'll be as cute as I want to be. We're not in court; we're arguing about a 15-year-old game on the internet, so we don't have to be deadly serious all the time.

Anyway, characters in FF7 are as unique or useful as you want them to be; they're customisable, so you can have whoever you want in your party at whatever time. The onus is on the player to define what each character's role is and what they can do. There are some natural differences between the characters, but they're pretty small. Wanna know why Cait Sith is so crappy? Because everyone hates him, therefore no-one puts him in their party when they have the choice and he neither gets levelled up nor equipped with any decent materia/weapons/armour/accessories. Of course he's going to be crap.

And as for the use he has in the storyline, that's completely different from his use in battle and you know it. And as it happens, he is an important part of the party at several points. Storywise, all of the FF7 characters have some part to play, even if it's a small one. Even the optional characters add something to the game.
