This is the reason Wii games fail so often. The typical buyer is not willing to shell out for a really great game. Sad.

Exactly, the core gamer thinks first, then buys. They know the game will drop in price, and they'd rather wait (myself included). Its common for all systems not just the Wii. 

Looking at how massively frontloaded most HD games are makes me think you might be incorrect. It seems most HD owners are willing to buy a good HD game at full price knowing darn well that 2 months down the line that same game will only cost 60% as much.
