Does anyone else hate how long it takes to switch out games these days? Back in the SNES days I could be playing one game, and then in a matter of 5 to ten seconds be playing another. Nowadays it can take minutes to take a game out of the disk slot, get another one in have it load up, and actually get into the game and play it. Even with the Gamecube I found it easier.

I find myself not playing as many games in a session as I used to, and leaving the same game in the system for weeks just because it's too much of a hassle to change it to play a game for fifteen minutes. It seems I need to play for an hour or more to make it worht the effort. The ratio of time spent changing games to time spent playing games is something like 1:10 when it should be more like 1:50. More and more I find myself playing downloadable titles because I can switch between them quickly, and even that seems to take longer than it should.

Let's go back to cartridges or something. Then you could change the games without waiting for the system to boot up. This game changing time increasing really ruins arcade style games. When I want to play a game I want to play it now, not 3 minutes from now.

What do you think?

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy
