I think your seeing a conspiracy theory cause you want to.

I've yet to see a government which wouldn't fight tooth and nail to stay in power.

To risk any bad publicity with elections looming would be madness.

Conspiracy theory?  How is this a conspiracy theory?  It's quite mundane actually as far as this stuff goes.  There isn't a person going up for something like this that doesn't have some kind of lobbiest backing themselves up.

It's a conspiracy theory when one of the principil parties said "Thanks for doing this guys" and everyone else denies it?

What would Momar Quaddaffi gain by lieing?

I thought you claimed most people were FOR this.  Now it's hurting them?

No, the UK Government getting involved in any way with Scottish affairs will do the Government huge damage. I don't think you understand British politics - Scotland had lots of powers devolved to it at the end of the last century, and it's led to the rise of the Scottish Nationalist Party, they're currently operating a minority lead in the Scottish Parliament, with the Scottish Executive being the head of the SNP, Salmond.

He's a very outspoken guy, and any time, at all, that the UK Government tries to get involved in Scottish affairs, Salmond opens his mouth, and it does the UK Government lots of damage.

The UK Government is currently being run by Labour. Labour's support is dieing, and it's looking very obvious now that they won't win the next election. Traditionally, Scotland has been one of Labour's strongholds, but with the rise of the SNP, they need to cling and fight to every last seat in the next election.

The Labour run Government getting involved with Scottish affairs in anyway, especially something as large as this, will be hugely damaging to the party - perhaps beyond repair.
