There's nothing to suggest that he was a pedophile at this point - well, maybe "nothing to suggest" is too strong, but there was never anything conclusive. A weirdo? Yeah, sure, fine, the man was a weirdo, but calling him a pedophile is dishonest. Sensationalistic, even.
All I know is he made Thriller.
