Look at it this way: under your reasoning, Resident Evil on the Gamecube was NOT a remake because it has stuff that the original didn't. We know that's not the case, of course. In fact, I venture that aside from adding multiplayer the REmake had more dramatic changes between the original game and its modern reimagining. The only thing that favors NOT calling Punch-Out!! a remake is that Nintendo said it's a "new game," but they've yet to show me any reason why "remake" shouldn't apply. Keep in mind that I'm hardly insulting the game by calling it a remake. Remakes can be great (see: REmake, Klonoa, most likely Boy and His Blob, and tons more). I know that has a negative connotation in some folks' mind (nevermind that most of 'em never played the original), which is likely why Nintendo's taken the tack it has, but as near as I can tell this is, in fact a remake. Care to change my mind? I'm all ears. |
There are new charactersat the very least. I am trying to track down the press release I saw it in but am having some trouble. Wikipedia has new characters and new moves listed, but with no source. Of course Wikipedia also lists it as a "re-imagining" of the title so it more or less keeps the debate at a stand still. What it is officially labeled as is largely irrelevant iif ya ask me. Just want to make sure the right info is out there.
Edit: Re-imagination is the official tagline given by Nintendo. I imagine this will be similar to what happened with Prince of Persia.
