People buy it because they know that Sony will never let them down.

I suppose these "people" never bought a CD from SONY/BMG that installed a Rootkit on their computer opening it up to hackers and sending information about your usage habits.

I suppose these "people" never bought a laptop from Apple/DELL/other companies that had exploding SONY batteries

I suppose these "people" never bought a Minidisc player, or a Betamax player, or another of SONY's failed formats

I suppose these "people" never had to import anything from Lik-Sang because it takes a year for games to make their way from the USA to other countries such as Australia.

I suppose these "people" never bought content from SONY that was encumbered by DRM and couldn't play in any media player.

I suppose these "people" have never been sued by SONY and their RIAA partners, or had their 10 year old daughters or dead parents sued.

I'm sorry, SONY has let me and many people down over and over again and finally they're seeing the backlash from treating their customers like shit for years. I and many others simply don't trust them any more and don't buy any more of their products, because I don't know what they will try next.

Of course, you're more than welcome to keep accepting their crap, it's just unfortunate that there are too many people who keep buying their stuff and they can justify their unlawful and unethical behaviour.

Yeah, Sony did/does all of that. Failed formats aren't punishing the consumer. If enough people suffered and bought into it, it would have succeeded. That's bad for Sony; I'm sure they didn't create the format with the intention of it failing.

As for DRM, well, movies companies never try that. Other Audio companies never try DRM. DRM may be a waste of time and it'll be better when they realize that fact, but attempting DRM prevents people from copying and they make more money.

Now, the main response I have is very simple: don't act like Nintendo and ESPECIALLY Microsoft are innocent. How many broken promises have been made by both companies? Microsoft created Windows by screwing over the guy that made DOS, so the whole company is founded on questionable morales. Microsoft is not exactly known for their trustfulness.  That's a nice list you created, but you could create a longer list of DRM and other issues with Microsoft.

I suppose you just don't buy consoles because no console manufactorer can be trusted.
