I can't understand people who don't like the Metroid Prime series. One simple thing made it better than any 2D Metroid: The scan visor.

Seriously, I love that thing. Scanning my surroundings for clues and background info, not to mention analyzing enemies for weaknesses, is just too freakin' kickass to ignore.

The other visors are way cooler than the clumsy X-ray visor in Super Metroid, too. You get a slick graphical presentation of how the environment looks in a different spectrum and you don't have to stand still and clumsily move your scanner about.

I will admit though, the 2D games definitely have better platforming.
