I'm sure by now everybody knows it's a crime. However the law needs to be updated, even things such as ripping songs from a cd you purchased to put on your ipod or burn onto a cd for your car are illegal, although I believe they are changing those laws now.
The way I see it, if I like a band/song, I'll pay for the album. If I didn't like it enough to buy it but I download it then no one is missing out or losing money. If downloading wasn't available then I wouldn't have paid for it anyway so the artist and record company don't miss out, and I didn't steal from a store so they didn't lose out either.
