Forums - General Discussion - The Ultimate Foldathon Thread

Fold-a-thons aren’t a new concept to some PlayStation 3 users, just recently Sony announced that 1 million PS3 console owners have used Stanford University’s Folding@Home program, which is a program that networks computers together to process large quantities of data, which is an optional install on Sony’s PlayStation 3.  

In light of this the idea to host the largest fold-a-thon ever.  The thought that both computer and PlayStation 3 owners could unity for two days and show the world that we all want to give a brighter future for our kids by helping find cures for all the various diseases.

For this Fold-a-thon there is a special team setup specifically for this event, the team number is 109453.  It is not required that participants join the team.  The purpose of the team so to give a rough estimate of how much data has been processed and how many people participated during the two-day event.

For any PC users who want to participate please download the client that best suits your computer from Stanford University’s website.  For people who has high-end graphics cards it would be recommend to consider trying out the GPU beta client version of the software or else stick with the CPU version.  For any questions about setup and compatibility please visit Stanford’s FAQ Page.

For PlayStation 3 users, just go under the network tab of for the cross-media bar and make sure you have Folding@Home installed.  For any questions related to the project please visit Stanford’s PlayStation 3 FAQ Page.

The two- day Fold-a-thon will begin on Monday March 3rd, 2008 at 12 a.m. EST and end on Wednesday March 5th, 2008 at 12 a.m. EST.
