Forums - Sales Discussion - Mind Reading Interface!!!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070430/ap_on_hi_te/mind_reading_toys

A breif highlight.

Behind the mask is a sensor that touches the user's forehead and reads the brain's electrical signals, then sends them to a wireless receiver inside the saber, which lights up when the user is concentrating. The player maintains focus by channeling thoughts on any fixed mental image, or thinking specifically about keeping the light sword on. When the mind wanders, the wand goes dark.

This would be amazing, it would work on any console, any game, anything. How will this effect gaming? Wow!

I can't wait until their are mind interfaces for pc's and computers and videogames, so many times i get frustrated because I could be working MUCH faster than I currently am if i had 3 hands, two to type with and one to use the mouse with, but then you could multi task like a MOFO if you had the ability for more inputs, I really like the future of this technology, but unfortunately just concentrating on making a light saber stay alight is like having one button to press on a controller, it's not good enough to be used yet... I don't think we'll be able to interface with machines until they ahve some sort of organic input or something of the like.

Really if you read the entirety of the thing, it talks about how in a game like GTA, where when your running around killing people, if you loose your 'concentration'  you loose aim, on a football game, where when you throw/kick depending on if your american or european football... :P You throw/kick it where you want it... or not!

This idea is more than a button, it's like having to hang onto a oiled pig, while playing a game. You loose concentration, you loose the pig. You loose the game. It's ALOT more than a button ;)

Concentration tends to be hard... ;)

It looks too ugly.

I don't think proper thought recognition is about concentration though, i want to think walk here shoot there (where i am looking) etc and then for that to happen in game or on the computer, i want to think enter 456 into cell b7 or the cell i'm looking at and it will work... that sort of thing is so far off.

I read the article, and it's still like a button, you're just either concentrating or not, it's not viable as a proper way of playing yet (this is like the power glove was to the Wii, give it 20 years and it'll come into fruition)

I know what you want. You want a 100% interfaceless... interface... :P

But on a seroius note. It would be awesome to see something like that on the next gen consoles. (PS4, 720, Wii2, 3 whatever)

Like I said, it's like hanging onto a greased pig, while playing a game... You stop paying attention... you loose aim, you die.

It adds a whole new level to the game. However it depends on what kinda concentration it wants... ;0 It might not work.

It'd be interesting for a quick burst type thing, focus when you're doing a sniper shot or kicking a field goal, but to try and make it a long-term sustained thing would just annoy and frustrate most people. Like having to shake the Wiimote 100 times a minute to keep attacking bad guys, it isn't immersive anymore just annoying and tiring. :P

And we can all have big red dots in the middle of our foreheads.
