Cant say I agree. Infact, I have the oposite problem. AC Odyssey really highlighted a lot of flaws or RDR 2. The god awful sluggish movement and combat that is worse than GTA 5. Animations taking way too long, the addition of redundant survival systems, an outdated mission structure that is so linear that it's at odds with the freedom of the open world. The "random" events don't really feel random, more scripted.

It looks like a game from 2023, but plays like a game from 2003. That 97 metacritic is way too high, it's definitely one of the most overrated games of this generation.

Just imagine if RDR2 had a similar arcade movement style to AC, FFX or even original RDR etc. What a way to break the immersion, it would look & feel ridiculous. I wouldn't call it sluggish anyway and hope other games will take a similar approach.

Combat could be better but that's a slight problem in most Rockstar games except Max Payne 3. GTAV was worse, just so sloppy I remember really disliking it.

Mission design compliments the open world perfectly. Strong story plays such a huge part so there's no reason to mess with the delivery. It's basically a cinematic experience in an open world so it's you can stay focused on the story after hours of noodling around the world. A good design choice. And it's kind a funny  some people just decided that it's 2018 when design like this becomes outdated heh.

Not sure what you mean about random events feeling scripted. Of course they are, and with some quality scripting. Some events from chapter 2 continue after beating the game in a surprising way etc. Some amazing detail there.

97 meta is more than deserved. Did you play games in 2003?
