The expectation game is nasty. In the case of myself, I am vulnerable when it comes to this. When people hype up stuff as "all that... and a bag of chips" it sets the bar WAY too high for me, and I end up disappointed. Conversely, when people trash something mercilessly, the bar likely ends up being lower than it normally should be, and I have this weird paradox where I enjoy a bad game better than a pretty good, to good one. Expectations kicks in.

This paradox means that, I enjoyed Earth Defense Force 2017 (360) almost as much as MGS4. This in no theoretical universe should happen, but it did. Why? It is because of the expectation game. And, as much as a critic as I have been as MGS4, can recognize it as a quality game (definitely MUCH higher quality than EDF). Shoot, I would go as far as put them nearly on the same level of enjoyment actually. I think I got more hours out of EDF than I did MGS4. Oh, it was grind... TONS of grind.

...Was it after chapter 11 when I truly got feeling on Valkyria and thought how great game it is...But after that I started to think flaws since gameplay got boring..
Ok:
-Welkin is bad main character
-Other characters besides Selvaria aren't interesting.
-I just read chat mostly in 1 sec and skip, since nothing really makes me think what they have said. ( "Oh Welking" Oh, Hi Alicia" So we have fight tomorrow" "Yes and its gonna be hard" "I trust in you Welkin" "Thanks"
-Its very sad when you are overpowering enemy then boom reinforcments suddenly come from behind and destroy Welkin.
-Lancers won't hit their target at 10 meters or more. At last fight god how many times I cursed when they miss from 1m.
-Luck! I don't want this much luck to strategy games. Either enemy dodges your bullets, then shoots back and kills your team or not.
-Enemys are pretty stupid

as a note, if you shoot them from behind they are much less likely to dodge. I mean honestly if someone was going to walk up in front of me, aim once and shoot off all their rounds I'd drop to the ground too

That is to say, my expectations of it were normal and not ultra high.
