I think this may be the end of the entire Tales franchise. I know Tales of 10 is still coming, but seeing this game getting discontinued, and despite high sales trackings of VGChartz, it seems ToS Wii sales have also disappointed Namco.

It's a sad gaming industry where one of the best genres (JRPG's) can't seem to make any profit anymore.

Well, consistently completely ignoring 1/3 of the market isn't exactly going to be beneficial for the commercial success of your game. It's ridiculous that a rather large company like Namco doesn't have a European office.

Yeah.  The day the jRPG genre dies is the day I quit gaming.  I get this feeling it may be happening soon - the genre going like 2D spaceship shooters, or the DoDo.

I always had the feeling that all the jRPGs on Xbox 360 was a last ditch effort by devs.  It seems to be coming true.

Tales of Vesperia is why I have a 360 in my console stash.  Next is Star Ocean 4.  When my choices come down to Casual games and shooters, I'm signing out.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

they're already happy w/ the MS' m$. They already know from the start that it really won't sell well

Dang I need to go buy this soon then before there are no copies but used ones left.

Could not have said it any better.

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

Hey, don't forget that there are better rpg:s available. Western ones, you could always play them if jrpg:s disappear.

No thanks. Diablo 3 being the exception, of course.

Western RPGs might as well be a different genre.

I doubt the genre is dying, but it's the lower-budget efforts which are keeping it alive (Disgaea, Persona, The World Ends With You, etc.). These are generally better games than the high-budget ones anyway.
