   Do you mean outselling the Wii in the next 3 years or the next 8?  In the next 3 it won't (the PS3 will just be hitting the magic price point by the end of the next few years) but in the next 8 it almost certainly will (when the Wii is discontinued 4 or so years from now to make way for a new Nintendo system but the PS3 can persist due to its higher end tech).  The PS systems make most of their sales when they drop below the 199 (or maybe this gen 250) price point.  There isn't a doubt in my mind that the PS3 would be ahead of the Wii in sales if they cost the same amount.  I mean look at PS2 sales, in theory the Wii has the casual/low end market locked down and yet, every week without fail, over 100k PS2s sell.  Most weeks the PS2 is either right behind the 360 or even sometimes a bit ahead.

    Most likely MS is using selective numbers like in their E3 presentation.  Remember when they said the 360 was number 1 in the US knowing full well that within days the Wii numbers for June would be out showing the Wii had passed them up?  They almost certainly did the same thing here given that the PS3 only very recently passed up the 360.  They probably used slightly old numbers to make the point they want to make.

Some changes to look out for by the end of this year

1. Home
2. PlayTv-will add the functionality of a Tivo to your PS3
3. PS3's new video store, which won't help hardware but will give Sony a lot more $$$$ to play around with
4. PS3s will soon be sold in Latin America, look for 20,000+ in others weekly once this is accomplished
6. Blu-ray will be 15% of all US discs sold by the end of the year

I think I might be able to solve the question of why MS claims to still have Europe. I recall hearing somewhere that MS calculates "Europe" sales as a more broad geographical area than what Sony and VGC do. So they could potentially be winning "Europe" according to their definition and not by VGC's. For now.

This is clearly not true, the ps3 has overtaking the 360 in Europe!! (Why does Microsoft lie?)

The company announced that the PS3 has now topped 5 million in sales, overtaking the Xbox 360 which launched a lot earlier and has been consistently cheaper. Maybe there’s something to this Blu-ray lark after all?

A ‘delighted’ David Reeves [pictured], SCEE president and CEO announced:

"I am delighted to be able announce today that we have sold more PlayStation 3's throughout Europe than Xbox 360 - even though they launched sixteen months before PS3.”
