You might not be a fanboy, but you did swallow sony's übertech themed marketing. The cell might be good at crunching folding@home units, but as far as gaming is concerned it hasn't proved to have any kind of significant advantadge.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

No wait.. in either case, have you not seen the ps3 exclusives ? and most developers claim they havent even gone deep in yet. Infact most statements say "the spus swollow everything we throw at em" .. hehehehe

Check out my game about moles ^

I was under the impression that 360 sales are up YOY. If that's so, they dont need to cut price as much as some people seem to believe. Really, though, they aren't getting beaten badly by Sony in NA and that was all they really wanted from the start. They are, therefore, in a position to make up for some of the billions of dollars invested in the brandname.

Signal Hill’s Todd Greenwald has issued a damning statement on Microsoft’s E3 360 price adjustment today, saying that it’s not enough to differentiate the machine from PlayStation 3 in the US.

“We remain very sceptical of Microsoft’s pricing strategy and competitive positioning versus the PlayStation 3,” said the analyst in a research note.

“At $349, with a 60Gb hard drive, we just don’t think it is a compelling product compared with the PS3 at $399 with an 80Gb hard drive (along with more processing horsepower, Blu-ray, Wifi, HDMI, and going forward, more exclusive content),” he offered.

“We’d also note that the Xbox 360 has just been surpassed by the Wii in the US, despite Microsoft’s one year head start over Nintendo.

“We do think that the Netflix announcement is a significant addition for Xbox users, though its far more of a positive for Netflix than it is for Microsoft in our opinion.”

Microsoft dropped the price of the 20Gb US 360 SKU and announced a new, 60Gb machine just before E3 last week.

It,s A fair point when you look at both products.

Are ms taking the american market for granted?

More processing power is debatable, both have HDMI, and more exclusive content for the PS3 is highly debatable.

With that said, I'm skeptical of the price adjustment also. MS needs to get the price of the 360 down RIGHT NOW. It's coming close to 3 years with one $50 price cut... Ridiculous. It really shows how new to the manufacturing game Microsoft really is.

I would agree with you on those points but the bigger hd and br for 50 bucks extra means it is not great value for money in the us.

That is the problem with all the analysts.  They have very little understanding of technology or popular culture.

I agree with his conclusion, but he does not cite proper evidence to conclude what he concludes.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Yep, I'd have to agree mostly. $50 is definitely worth the Bluray drive alone. Let alone you get wifi and 20gb more. The other differences are either non-existent or highly debatable.

Now that the mutliplat games are basically equal between the two and the PS3 having more features, 360 really needs to be at least $100 less. Otherwise people with an HDTv are just not informed if they purchase a 360 over the PS3. Soon, they will have the same DLC and you get the Bluray player in the PS3.

As for exclusives go, meh. I personally really only care for Nintendo's exclusives. I could buy 360's on the PC and think there are only a couple on the PS3 I would really like. God of War, MGS4, ... I am not too sure on the others.

But yeah, I still think that once the 20gb models are gone, MS will drop the price to $299 for the 'new' premium model. Thus probably $199/$229 for the arcade and $379/$399 for the elite. This should happen before October.

I agree with the bolded, but if MS doesn't decide to price cut and just focus on profitablity, the PS3 will catch up much faster than expected. So far, this year has been like a snowball effect for the PS3. If MS doesn't do anything to stop the momentum soon, it will be to little to late and MS won't be able to keep their promise to finish this gen ahead of the PS3 (might not be able to hold out in front by next year's E3)

No they don't. They know Nintendo is out of their league, and a price cut RIGHT NOW would only mean less profit, and a price cut from Sony, most likely. They will look closely at their sales, and if they are going down further (what is to be expected at least by me) they cut price, in Oktober/November, if they are not going down to low, they make it next year. That time makes way, way, way more sense. By that time, a price cut can be done, without hurting profitability too much (2 new chips are on the way!) And Sony can not respond in the middle of the Christmas sales. And we both know, Christmas is the time this business gets serious. Getting there a boost and mass attention is way more worth than right now.
