@Garcian Smith: The Allendale is a nice processor, not a puny one. And a Radeon 3870 struggling on LOW? Wow, just wow...

"and all of those cheap parts probably won't last long." <--- oh, the irony...

And your 360 has WiFi? And would you add the wireless headset, the keyboard addon, etc. to the final price of a 360 even when they are optional?

@kingofwale: $40USD shipping to my location... and to build it you just look it up on google. Lack of knowledge is not our problem, specially since you came on here whining.

@Both: I don't see you complaining on the HDD size on your consoles. What Xbox 360 model you have Garcian? I could've put a 160GB one for like 10 bucks more if I wanted.

Why you PC haters have to always whine about these things, specially since nobody asked? Damn...

I love how you throw raw components at us to justify the 'saving'... why don't you also just buy us a bunch of resistor and you might be able to cut the price down to 300?

What I want to see is a built machine for under 500, if i can't have that, what is stopping people from chosing a console instead???

Hell, give me fifty bucks' worth of silicon and steel and the proper tools, and I can make a PC that can run Crysis from scratch. Oh, wait - you don't know how? Well, your lack of knowledge isn't my problem.

Crysis: Runs on a $50 PC. You heard it here first, folks.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

If you don't know how to build a pc then thats your problem. It saves a lot of money if you do however.

It's a pain in the ass to the average gamer who just wants to play games. Hence, the success of consoles in today's gaming market.

Some are clearly in the category of life long PC hobbyists who have as much fun sourcing parts, assembling a build and then overclocking and optimizing performance, but going under the assumption that "everyone" who wants a budget gaming PC can do this is just unrealistic.

If I had to make a wild shot in the dark, I'd say low single digit percentages of computer users actually have even the remedial tech kung fu required to source, build and optimize a PC.

It's a stupid argument really.

If you can do that Garcian, great for you then. You would make our point even more valid.

@kingofwail: People prefer consoles for easiness, not for prices. PC gaming is just too hardcore for them.

My point exactly. By the time you research how to build the thing, price out components, pay extra to have them shipped, spend a ton of time unpacking, assembling, and hooking up everything, installing the OS, debugging and troubleshooting to optimize performance, and overclocking the processor, you've easily spent a lot more money in opportunity cost than you might think. Some people gain enjoyment out of it, but for the vast majority of us who just want to play games, it's not worth it.

Sorry but you're the one that came onto the thread trolling like you usually do.  He called you out on it.  He took the time to put the list together and met your stupid demands and you're still arguing?

How about I demand a retailer hand deliver the PS3 from their shelf to my entertainment center, plug everything in, charge the wireless controllers, plug everything in, and put the disc in the system too?

Did I ask him to plug everything in??? hmmm, no.

Did I tell him to hook up this PC of his to the wireless router? hmmmm, no

Did I tell him to put the game into the Disc drive?? hmmm, no

Please come up with better analogy if you want to join this debate.

Opportunity cost is a pathetic argument for this crowd.  You're posting on a gaming forum, hardly constructive either.  Learning how to build computers is much better since you're saving yourself a lot of money and having a good computer as well as making money by having others pay you to build a computer.

Learning how to do something is the opposite of the opportunity cost argument.  Posting randomly on a gaming forum with no purpose however fits your opportunity cost argument.

Opportunity cost is one thing, the technical KNOW-how is another. How many people in this world know how to put a computer together from scratch???

frankly, the time spent learning so JUST to save a few bucks is the perfect definition of "opportunity cost"

You can easily build your PC, install the OS and Drivers in just a few hours. And so what about the money spent on shipment? You're saving much more than the cost of the shipment.

Hell, you don't even have to build your own machine for the PC gaming to be cheaper than Console... you can buy a pre-built PC from HP for $1200 + GPU/RAM Upgrade and I'll tell you that it will STILL be cheaper to game on it than the PS3/360.
