No ninja cyborg enthusiasts I guess? Revengeance is back on my list after several years absence. Is that because I replayed it? Is it because it's flaws got fixed? No, it's because it's just that cool. In the end games are about creating an experience and Revengeance is the ultimate over the top action game. Raiden is badass, the bosses are epic, the music is fantastic, so yeah, let's not pretend a few design flaws are enough to stop it from being awesome.

I know I'm more than a few years in the wrong order here, but I played Dragon Age: Origins after Baldur's Gate III and I gotta say to me it was a very similar game with even more likeable characters and better story. Even just comparing my screenshots of the two games you get a very similar vibe. But yeah even though I started the game last year I ended up taking a long break from it and finishing it this summer and it's earned a spot as one of my new favorite western RPGs. The writing is fantastic ranging from witty to very dark and I kinda love the Wow inspired gameplay (I assume? It's 5 years after), even if it could use just a tad more polish (thus why I've listed it as one of the best 00s games for a potential remake).

And despite how much I loved the main game I haven't even had time to play Awakening yet, so there's still that to look forward to at some point.

Classics among classic that modern 3D gaming owes so much to. The first time I played Ocarina of Time I told myself this was the Half-Life of console gaming (and that's high praise, Half-Life is gonna appear higher up), and Majora's Mask actually impressed me even more. The 3DS versions are my versions of choice and though it's long since I've played these games I still remember them quite fondly.

Sorry for so many posts in a row but keeping up is a struggle :D

39) This series has dabbled with a light and dark world before but this time in 3D

38) Robot Philosophy Part 2

37) The prequel to Robot Philosophy part 2

36) To gain dragon powers you must slay a dragon and absorb its essence. Everyone knows that

35) The game that introduced arguably the most iconic horror game protagonist

More clues.

#40

  • One of this game's side characters is likely the Finnish god of water, though it's never explicitly confirmed.
  • Hiss

#39 Monster Hunter World

  • The highest-selling game in this long-running series focused on killing monsters.

#38 Tales of Berseria

  • A remaster of this action RPG was just announced less than a week ago.

#37

  • Drangleic.
  • Vendrick

#36 Fire Emblem: Three Houses

  • Pick your side, black, blue, or gold.

For many, the de facto best game of all time, Breath of the Wild was in many ways something of a revelation upon release back in 2017. Very few games before or since have created such an impeccable feeling of freedom and sense of discovery than this game did, and it did so by essentially returning to the series' roots, albeit with modern design sensibilities and decades of accumulated knowledge sanding off the rough edges to make the experience truly unforgettable. Not perfect, but fantastic nonetheless.

Whether it's the inspired gameplay design, wonderful setting and world, the sheer volume of things to do and secrets to find, or as I mentioned before, the freedom the player is afforded to decide how to play the game, Breath of the Wild is simply a wonderful experience. Of course, no game is perfect, as mentioned. The stamina meter is far too small early on, making some of the early hours of the game unnecessarily annoying at times, the weapon durability system is still a misfire as far as I'm concerned, achieving only me trying to avoid combat whenever I could, the music is largely quite forgettable, though admittedly the ambient style fits the game wonderfully, it just doesn't make for very engaging listening otherwise, a handful of exceptions notwithstanding, and Link himself remains a dull blank slate of a character with nary a distinguishing personality trait to be found, but each of those issues and the few others the game has are ultimately minor problems in the face of everything the game does magnificently.

Majora's Mask was technically the first top 40 game but now we enter it in earnest. Twilight Princess was the first 3D Zelda game I played actually though not the first one I beat. Twilight Princess is perhaps the game that comes closest to being a more modern Ocarina of Time only with the added elements of the Dark World, some great characters, cool new items and possibly the most epic ending of a Zelda game. Ironically what holds it back the most is perhaps the simplicity of the Wolf form sections, which is a bit of shame since Wolf Link is really cool he just can't really... do much. But other than that this is to me the defacto traditional Zelda game and actually my biggest hope for the series is the next entry tries to blend Twiling Princess with elements from Breath of the Wild which is something that has great potential in my mind.
