I have a free month of GP on this PC. So finally getting to use my 20th Anniversary Series controller. GoW4 has no weight to it. I like shooting robots in games. I really do. This game made them kinda boring. Swarm hasn't been that interesting either. The game hasn't been bad so far just kinda exists. It's mechanically sound and has more Gears but somewhat lesser than. Not trying to hate on it. In Chapter 3 so obviously still playing. Just feels weaker so far. Oh and btw when I worked at Gamestop in the early 7th generation we got a bunch of free shit. I found my GoW dog tags. I put them back in the drawer. Yes, I did hear the collectible noise in my head. That very RE-ish sound.

I just checked the last 3 pages and I think that this hasn't been shared yet?

This is from today, an interim order from the CMA restricting MS and ABK from acquiring an interest in each other.

Except with the prior written consent of the CMA, Activision (and Microsoft) and all members of the Group of Interconnected Bodies Corporate to which it may belong must not:

  1. (a.) acquire an Interest in Activision/Microsoft or any of its Subsidiaries;
  2. (b.) acquire an Interest in an Enterprise holding an Interest in Microsoft or carrying on the business of Activision/Microsoft from time to time; or
  3. (c.) hold an option to acquire an Interest referred to in subparagraphs (a) and (b) above.

Part of the process until there is a final determination.

____

Microsoft can't acquire a minority interest in Activision-Blizzard-King now. It was published today, coincidentally after news of the EC approving. Feels like CMA is making their "NO" very clear. They ain't going to give a shit what EC says.

I feel like Ida's last line there suggests this is typical. But maybe I am reading too much into it.

Yeah but I'm confused. CMA already issued their determination, a block. Microsoft hasn't yet officially appealed to CAT.

So what is the final determination? Is it CMA assuming Microsoft will appeal to CAT? Is it the date of when Microsoft officially stops trying to acquire Activision-Blizzard?

Either way, I'm surprised that CMA can actually stop Microsoft from acquiring even minority shares in ABK, even if it's only during the course of the regulatory process. Like fair enough "You can't acquire shares which would give you a majority voting right" or something like that but no shares at all? Seems a bit extreme.

@Spade more Japanese goodness on GP

Heard about this... might check it out. CC2 needs to make a Bleach game though.

8.6TF LOL I'm sorry but I'm rewatching the video from Asus Ally launch event.
the deck is at 1.6 TF and this thing can punch a 8.6TF... This is ridiculous for 50$ difference...

Almost feels like we're robbing Asus

This is borderline PS5/Series X level of graphical power!

Realistically I don't think you'll see performance anywhere near PS5 and Series X, due to clock rates being throttled to save on battery life and such, as well as the mobile CPU compared to PS5 and Seies X having a proper desktop CPU, but I haven't seen any benchmarks yet.

Edit: And indeed I was right. While the Asus ROG specs seem impressive on paper, after looking at it's real world performance from multiple reviews' benchmarks just now, it doesn't seem to perform even close to to the 8.4 tflop you're seeing on paper, a number which makes it seem like it would perform between Series S and PS5. Even with the ROG Ally set on turbo mode, which has just 1 hour of gaming battery life, PC gamer got just 48 fps average playing Hitman 3 at ultra settings at 1080p. By comparison PS5 runs Hitman 3 at 1800p (a big increase over 1080p on the ROG ally), with a mix of ultra, high, and medium settings at a locked 60 fps. PC Gamer had to drop to full medium settings and turn on FSR to run resolution at native 720p upscaled to 1080p in order to hit a locked 60 fps on Hitman 3. Cyberpunk is even worse than Hitman on it, even with medium settings and using FSR to run at native 720p upscaled to 1080p, ROG Ally only managed 37 fps average, with a minimum framerate of just 12 fps at some point during their benchmark sequence.

PC GamesN meanwhile got these results at 1080p low settings on various games, these results are even below the 4 tflop Series S even though the ROG Ally has more RAM than Series S and a supposedly 8.4 tflop GPU.

Maybe things will improve for the ROG Ally as AMD releases some better drivers for it's Z1 Extreme chipset, but as of now it's not performing all that well imo, certainly not $700 well. For $700 you can get a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 laptop with a Ryzen 5 CPU and a GTX 3050 GPU, which would beat these ROG Ally benchmarks with ease, I just found a review for it that says it can run AC Valhalla at 1080 ultra settings with 40 fps, and 60 fps by dropping to medium settings, and another which says it can run Borderlands 3 at 1080p badass settings with 42 fps and Red Dead Redemption 2 with 1080p very high settings at 39 fps, and Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p ultra 36 fps and medium settings at 62 fps. It would also be more practical to own than the ROG Ally which is only good for gaming, a laptop you can actually use for other things.

You'll live

@Ryuu96 so if MS wanted to purchase a minority stake in ActiBlizz, like, 2% or something, they can't even do that?!?

Looks that way.

I'm assuming this is just during the appeal process? Because I don't see how the UK can outright prohibit that permanently.

Yes the 8.6TF is greatly misleading to what the chip can actually do when comparing to RDNA2.

A 780m (RDNA3) is roughly 25% more powerful than a 680m (RDNA2) but has over double the teraflops. The gpu in the Ally is essentially the 780m.

There are plenty of benchmarks already for the 780m the only real difference is the 780m can boost up to 2.9ghz while this boosts to 2.7ghz. It's roughly a GTX 1650, so expect Series S level performance.

Those expecting a big improvement over the 1.6TF steam deck with the basic 2.5TF Ally are in for a big shock. It might actually perform worse. Another reason why at $599 it's a completely pointless product next to the $699 model.
