Microsoft Corp. executives are set to meet with US Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan and other commissioners Wednesday to make its final case in favor of its deal to buy gaming studio Activision Blizzard Inc., a person familiar with the meetings said.

The antitrust agency is nearing a decision on the $69 billion deal, which would make Xbox-maker Microsoft into the No. 3 gaming company globally. A so-called last rite meeting between the companies and the FTC’s commissioners –- who make the final call and vote on any agency actions -– is often one of the last steps before either a lawsuit or a settlement are filed.

Microsoft President Brad Smith and other company executives are expected to attend the meetings, the person said, asking not to be named discussing the confidential probe.

The deal also requires antitrust approval from officials in the UK and the European Union, who have raised concerns that Microsoft could withhold popular game titles from rival systems, particularly from Sony Group Corp.’s Playstation.

European Commission Vice President Margrethe Vestager said Tuesday on the sidelines of a conference in Washington that the EU hasn’t started negotiating with the company over a possible remedy.

Damn bruh, will Xbox still exist in 3034?

It's for CoD, Brad only mentioned CoD in his piece, CoD is the only thing mentioned by Microsoft, Sony and regulators, it's just that these publications don't know much about gaming, so they just say Activision-Blizzard titles.

Just CoD. And it will be 10 years after the current Sony marketing deal on CoD expires, which still has one more game on it, and since there is no CoD in 2023 due to the series moving to an every other year release schedule, CoD 2024 will be the final CoD on the current Sony marketing deal. So, first year where a CoD could potentially be released as an exclusive would be 2035, but assuming they stick with the every other year release schedule, there will be no CoD game in 2035, so 2036 would be the first Xbox could make an exclusive if they wanted to.

Also the fact that the Sony marketing deal lasts through 2024, and the fact that Sony typically requires marketing deal partners to sign a contract saying they won't release their games on a competing service (like Gamepass) for 1 year, means that the first CoD able to be day one Gamepass will be the 2026 one. 2022's CoD MW2 should be able to be added to Gamepass 1 year after release on October 28th, 2023, while the 2024 CoD also won't be able to be added to Gamepass until 1 year later in 2025. On the plus side, all older CoD's from 2021 backwards should be able to be added to Gamepass as soon as the acquisition closes.

Good to see Nintendo was smart enough to accept the offer.

It’s seems like a good faith statement right now. Phil can’t legally make anything official lol

Still, makes all of Sony’s arguments look like the nonsense that they are lol
