The IGN PSVR2 review has taken me from planning to buy this late 2023 to wanting it now. Very tempting.

It was a very good and positive review.

The Digital Foundry review gets me very excited to receive my unit soon. Hopefully modders can get it working on PC, lots of people start using said mods, and Sony gets pressured into officially supporting PC VR.

Hasn't the original PSVR still not been 100% successfully modded for PC use?

But yeah... I think Sony will actually make it PC compatible eventually. I honestly don't think there's even enough units to go around anyways.

I guess first the manufacturing costs will have to come down to sell the headset at a profit, plus Sony likely wants to have some PC VR games ready before making it compatible. Atm it would be just a loss to sell for PC use. Like selling PS3s in early days with Linux that ended up in server farms.

I doubt the loss Sony takes on the headset is as much as they took on the PS3. Sony removed Linux later, partly to get PS3s to earn money for them instead of subsidizing server farms. For example: https://phys.org/news/2010-12-air-playstation-3s-supercomputer.html

Lesson learned, and I bet Sony also wants to have the focus on the PS5 experience with PSVR2. Not on all kinds of hastily put together mods to get BotW, GTA5, FS2020 and Porn to work on it with janky results.

However then there's still no official support for PSVR on PC so could also not happen at all :/ Yet with more and more Sony titles coming to PC, there's a good chance PSVR2 will follow. I mean, GT7 would sell quite well on PC and will sell the headset there as well. I would love to use PSVR2 with Elite Dangerous and FS2020, perhaps one day.

Got the PS5 retail version of GT7 for just €30 (shipping included), will be my first PSVR2 game.

Has Sony announced yet, which other PSVR2 games will be available as retail versions?

Call of the Mountain? Switchback VR?

None. I'm pretty sure they're pushing the games as digital only offerings for the time being.

Perp Games will be publishing a few of the 3rd party offerings in disc form, though.

Congrats on the GT7 purchase btw! Hope you enjoy it!

I just preordered the disc version of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge. Should arrive in the second week of April:

I also pre-ordered the PS5-version of Moss: Book 2 (remider: the 10% discount for PS+ subscribers ends at February 21st!)

I'm currently replaying Moss: Book 1 with my PCVR setup, so I had to choose between completing the Steam-Moss-Bundle for €25 and the PS5 version for around the same (due to PS+ discount):

But since they are implementing a few PSVR2 features (haptics and adaptive triggers of the PSVR2 controllers, characters react on eye tracking, when you look at them...), that's my prefered version. Also I still have 20% reduced PSN credit, which reduces the price to around €20.

Some of the VR headsets were supposedly focused at infinity. As I said before, most of the current ones as far as I'm aware, are focused at around 2 meters. Not exactly sure what the reasoning for that is. Probably a combination of reducing eye strain, and probably that it's a good fit for physical movement. It's about 2 arm lengths away.

That would actually be great news if PSVR 2 if focused at around 2 meters. They did change the lens design as this patent suggests
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2022/02/sony-has-patented-a-method-to-fix-god-rays-in-vr-headsets-like-psvr2/
The tear down video clearly shows the fresnel lenses while psvr 1 had traditional curved bulky lenses.

At 2 meters I can still see much more without glasses. (Even better when high, thc seems to relax your eyes, makes it possible for me to read the subtitles on TV without glasses. Although horror games in VR while high might be a bit too much!)

I guess it's user specific what the actual focus distance 'feels' like. All I can find that relates to focal distance on it is this:

What is PS VR Cinematic mode?

This is a mode to view the PS4 system UI and all non-VR games and applications on a virtual screen. This screen has varying sizes from Small (117 inches), Medium (163 inches) and Large (226 inches), placed virtually at 6 – 10 feet away (the size of the screen may feel different depending on the individual).
So PSVR was 2 to 3 meters.

FOV wasn't 'constant' either as without glasses I could place the screen closer giving it a larger fov, like sitting closer to a tv. My glasses stopped the headset from going fully in, so while sharp, the fov of the headset was slightly smaller (still quite a bit larger than the frame of my glasses though)

PSVR 2 has a wheel to change IPD by actually moving the screens in the hardware (see tear down video). This will be a nice improvement over the software IPD setting of PSVR (which many never used to properly calibrate the headset). I never bothered to change the IPD when not using glasses on PSVR1, but should have since the 'screen' moved in further which changes all the optic angles. The lenses were closer to my eyes without glasses on.

This most likely is a silly question, besides the reason that you shouldn't have to resort to something you don't want to do, is there anything stopping you using contacts or is it that you find contacts uncomfortable, on glasses and PSVR 2 I noticed in the official unpacking video that the  lady wore glasses and there seemed to be a nice gap between the lense and the frame.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

I've had contact lenses before but my eyes always got too dry using them. Contact lenses started irritating my eyes after an hour already, uncomfortable for long periods. Plus they were also a pita when cycling as inevitably a bit of dust or sand would get in between the lens and my eye, very itchy!

Maybe it's better now (dry eye wise) 25 years later, however my eyes are so bad today I would need bifocal contact lenses which have many draw backs. With glasses I can easily take them off or look over top to read something up close. (I don't use glasses behind my laptop for example) No issue in VR of course since it's all the same focal distance, yet just getting contact lenses to play VR, I'll try with my glasses first :)

Anyway now they changed the design to fresnel lenses there should be a lot more room in the headset for glasses.
