Both Xbox Series and PS5 have had an absolutely atrocious launch window in terms of games, I can't ever remember a new generation starting in a more boring and barren way.

Apparently they've just decided that the hardcore fans will buy one even if there are no games, and according to that charts, they will indeed.

Revisionist history and bad use of the word hardcore fan to describe people wanting to get a new console.  A launch window is what, six months?  By May 2021, there will new games such as Resident Evil 8, Returnal, fan favorites such as Mass Effect Trilogy, and others, if you extend it to 9 months, then you have Ratchet and Clank, FF7 and others as well.  The PS4 and Xbox didn't get anything on that level maybe outside TLOU: Remastered which came out July 2014 and Destiny from September that same year.

And Wii U didn't receive any post launch games until August 2013 (pikmin 3). 9 months without any major 1st party support

East Asia and Japan I believe is the major factor of Ps5 downhill.

None related to Xbox Series, but to another platform domination.

The fierce competition with Xbox series maybe because Microsoft don't screw up yet and the acquisition of Bethesda, lets wait five/six months more to see the better the scenario.

Maybe not a screw up at the level of that 2013 presentation. But I would say that the total lack of launch games is pretty bad. A historic first as im aware. Also no blockbuster games in over 2 years by the time halo infinite comes out is not a good look.

Gears Tactics released last year on launch day which is absolutely a AAA game and Flight Sim is launching in the summer so your 2 years statement is false.

Are you forgetting last gen?

PS4/Xbox One/Wii U all had weak launch windows. Not only that but the Switch was literally carried by Wii U games. All I would say is that last gen was less "boring" because there was less cross gen but the only highly rated exclusive PS4 had was Infamous SS in its launch window. Demon Souls, Miles Morales, Astro's Playground, Sackboy >>> Knack, Shadowfall

Also we're in the middle of a pandemic. Games have been getting delayed left right and center. For PS5 Kena, Returnal and Deathloop were all intended to launch by end of this month.

I wasn't forgetting last gen, PS4/Xbone/Wii U also had dismal launches. Just not quite this boring.

And BOTW may have been crossgen with Wii U, but it's still one the most acclaimed games of all time and launched day 1 on Switch. I still don't consider Switch to have had a strong launch showing but I'd still say it had a better one than PS5/XS.

Bet with Liquidlaser: I say PS5 and Xbox Series will sell more than 56 million combined by the end of 2023.

NSW 2021 falls behind NDS 07 and 08.  Will probably lag behind unless NPD Feb 2021 comes in at >500K and/or release of Monster Hunter Rise when we probably see a spike up to 7-800K in week 13.

Still outpacing all else though, including NSW 2020.

*Note, VGC numbers for NSW 2020 were very slightly adjusted down from last week.

US is undertracked by 150-200K for this timeframe now that we just got NPD Feb (613K - 753K).  So Switch is in the lead by far and close to 3M in 7 weeks.  With MHR + $1,400 US Stimulus coming, March should help it blow by the Q1 record of 5,424K set by NDS in 2007 and target 6M.  Nintendo shipments for the quarter might be in the 6-7M range.

I do see that. Adjustments incoming based on the NPD range. I wish we got actual figures instead of having to wait for leaks.

Is it just my weird perception, or is this the healthiest the video game industry has ever been outside of the Wii/DS/X360/PS3 era? A consistent 700K+ consoles sold every week in Winter quarter, with three reasonably strong consoles, seems really healthy.

Nintendo expands and bring back ex-gamer to the market.

Microsoft focus in expand your tier without missteps.

The true market expands, and not based in more countries supplied or based on population growth.

7th gen is the last true market videogame growth.  Growth against the other entertainment and the disinterest.

Only Nintendo did 250M+

The best Microsoft performance.
