Forums - Website Topics - Redesign Update

Talon's smashed through the remaining bugs and issues. Only a few left on our list now, some of which Trucks will be handling on the weekend with a bit of luck.

Stuff that's been fixed since the last update:

  • All formatting issues should now be resolved for Quick Reply
  • You can now use paragraphs in the comments section of articles (finally!)
  • Ratings percentages now display on the front page user reviews, not just the top rated ones
  • The Switch has moved to the top of the top row>GameDB>Platforms list, so that the platforms are all alphabetically consistent.
  • Clicking on an article via the notifcations in your Buddy now works as intended.
  • Front page graph figures have returned.
  • Notifications for any Badges earned now send you to your badge page, with the most recent ones listed, rather than to the generic site badge page.
  • PS5 & XSX|S now added to the front page Hardware Chart, ready for launch figures to be posted as soon as Will has the data ready.

Regarding the Hardware Chart...

It seems that maybe there are lines on the side of the title/date. One side shows a dot while the other side shows more of a line, albeit, a short one. I believe this is the format of all the other titles on the front page, but because there isn't enough space to render more of a line that the left side just gets a dot. I would suggest reducing the number of spaces between Hardware Chart and the date, or removing the suffix to the date (in the current case "th" as I don't think it's necessary, especially with the way you have represented the date already, or by doing both. This would give both sides more of the line to be consistent with the rest of the front page.

Of course, it's also possible that this section is still being worked on, but just thought I'd post a note about it.

Now that the bugs list is shorter, I'll be a bad person and report a 2-in-1 issue that was already happening to me before the redesign.

When the number of read posts in a thread ends with '9' (9, 19, 29, etc.) and someone makes a new post in that thread, the link that takes you to the new unread post should look like this: https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread/666666/this-is-the-cool-title-of-a-cool-thread/3/#10

But it rather looks like this: https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread/666666/this-is-the-cool-title-of-a-cool-thread/3/

It doesn't include the "#10" at the end, so it doesn't take you to the last post of that page, but the first one instead.

Something similar happens when the number of read posts in a thread ends with '0'. When there are new posts, the link should look this way: https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread/666666/this-is-the-cool-title-of-a-cool-thread/4/#1

But it looks this other way: https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread/666666/this-is-the-cool-title-of-a-cool-thread/3/#10

So it takes you to the last read post, instead of the first unread.

I have periods of social disconnection, it's a part of me that I need and keenly embrace. I'll still log in and read news and threads during those disconnections, but I won't be (very) active on the site, so I apology for any inconvenience that that might cause (late answers, bumps or the like).

Also...

Please, feel free to correct my English.

I'm assuming you have your posts per page set to '10'?

Yes! I forgot to mention that. I don't know if this would happen with a higher number of posts per page too.

Looks like this url is broken: https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/gamrRewards/

Also every time you log-in it takes you to https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/ instead of refreshing the page you are at. Is this by choice?

At this point I want to takethe time and thank the team. The redesign was a bit rough at first, with the slowdowns being a serious problem. But the team got down to it and squashed the problems, which probably was a lot of stress too. So I want to say my thank you. Now things come together. Thank you for your work.

As a supporter, does part of the money I pay goes to the devs and testers?

From the Supporter FAQ:

Who gets the money I donate?

All of the proceeds go directly to the staff that produce content for the site, namely the writing staff, the sales team, and the development team. This allows these volunteers to produce more content for the site, develop new site features, and add additional perks for Supporters over time.

I'm not familiar with https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/gamrRewards/ - what are you expecting to see there?

Login isn't supposed to take you to gamrconnect - it's supposed to drop you on whatever page you were on, when you logged in. I did make some recent changes to the login because it was vulnerable to SQL injections (and recently, somebody had been intentionally pounding at it for that very purpose!) - but nothing I changed should have broken the drop-off page. I'll have to take another look at that code...

Good idea. Added to the list.

That part of the site hasn't been active for years - so long even I can't remember what it looked like, and I was the one who had to run it xD
