Forums - Sony Discussion - Japanese analyst: PS5 could sell 200-300m in 5 to 6 years

The PS2 was 200 dollars or less for most of its lifespan and even it didn't come close to selling 200 million units. The PS5 at 500 and 400 dollars has even less of a chance.

Around the Network

The total global market for conventional consoles (meaning PS+Xbox) over the past generations has been relatively stable:

PS2+Xbox: ~180M
PS3+360: ~170-175M (10M-unit decline in Japan offset growth elsewhere)
PS4+XBO: >160M and growing (will probably end at over 170M)

Unless the U.S., European, or Japanese markets experience explosive growth, or a bunch of smaller markets suddenly become major markets, the idea that a single console could sell 200M+ all by itself is patently ridiculous.

If it was the only system available, sure.

Even then Xbox + PS is always around 180M, the jump to 300m would be quite surprising.

I meant all systems including Switch/2. Which is a hell of a reach.
