Forums - Sony Discussion - Some TLOU2 Haters Are Nut Jobs CONFIRMED!

Funny to see so many comments of "the minority of haters don't mean people aren't doing valid criticism" used by people that are doing obnoxious bashing of the game or people involved in it.

What I find hilariously sad about the situation is the fact they are upset at the story of a video game. Because what? It went in a different direction than they thought? Marvel comics were my thin from 2000 to 2015, I loved the X-men, still do but after Bendis got his hands on them and Hickman started writing Avengers, it all started falling, the story telling was so bad but I did what is the most sensible as a response, just stopped reading. Put my money into things that I enjoy.

In Last of Us, the characters were horrible people, the situation was messed up and it showed. But that was actually a good sign of writing, the writers were able to make me disdained with Joel., just like writers of Spec Ops the Line did with Capt Walker. If I had any friends I knew that were doing this (I don't as they all seem basically of sound mind), I'd thump them round the back of the head and tell them to show some bloody respect.

Hmm, pie.

What's that? Crazies can go both ways? Lies! It's only just the haters! You guys are full of it!

Anyone who hates the game just didn't get it/is a bigot/is a homophobe/is a mysognist/is a predator etc etc.

I think... trying to bring groups of people so deeply invested emotionally to raison is an impossible endeavour.

Remind you of anyone?

Remind you of anything?

Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan says he gets DEATH THREATS over Negan role

"And God forbid if I look on social media and the hate that I get there."

I'd like to say I'm surprised that ResetEra banned both Angry Joe and SkillUp simply because they posted reviews for TLOU 2 that were critical of the game, especially it's writing, but I'm surprised by nothing when it comes to Era's moderation. They seem to ban anybody who thinks even a little bit differently from them.

ResetEra:

Did you see the way angry joe reacted to the leaks and abby, and his mindset going into the game?? He did not give the game a fair chance. Same with skill up and their reactions to pre launch. Atleast try to act professional when going in to review a game.

am ashamed to say it, but when i first saw the leaks, i over reacted, i was part of the hater crowd for a while, but not the extreme level of online hate. I thought agenda this, that, abby is this, neil is that, how dare the team of writers do this.. but thank God i came to my senses. When i gave it some thought, and saw how low other people got to, the level of disrespect to the naughty dog team, it broke my heart, i felt like shit. I told my self i don't want to be anything like those people hating, and that i'd give the game a chance. One of the best games i've ever played, the team out did themselves. And i actually ended up really liking Abby.

I never actually saw the leaked footage myself, but I did see a number of written summaries of the contents a couple days after they hit. Based on that though, some of it interested me, but some of it worried me too. The parts that worried me though turned out to be lies.

Spoiler!
I had heard that it was leaked that Ellied died in the first fight with Abby and that Jesse and Dina wind up raising J.J. I was inclined to give the game a chance to justify that with the delivery, but also had some instinctive reservations myself. Turned out to be lies. I'm glad because, having now played through it, I think the game would've been quite a bit weaker had Ellie died there on the floor. That last, controversial chapter and the actual conclusion they went with make all the difference for me.

Yes,he told people it was important to wait till the game was fully out to see how those leaks would be put into the story and it is his gig to give angry reactions for entertainment, does not mean he can not form a good opinion,Jim Sterling can act annoying but does not mean he can not have valid opinions.

Skill up did take a softer approach and has most likely one of the more professional takes on the matter.

That last controversial chapter did what it needed to do for me at the start of the game, feel sorry for Abby.At the end i just disliked Ellie and wanted her to leave Abby alone that was already been defeated by misfortune and her own revenge.

People not liking a game is fine, people not liking decisions that were made is fine.

I've never understood hate trains. I didn't like RDR2 played 10 or so hours of it, just couldn't get into it and that was it. I didn't scream from the rooftops that it's 'TRaSh' or dm the developers or whatever. People need better outlets for their energy man.

RDR2 was trash becuase there was a black person in it who didn't get lynched or called the n-word. It's trash because that's not historically accurate and any REAL historical game would include nasty language like that and Rockstar are just pushing SJW agendas by not including extreme racism in their game. I only get upset when games are critical of my kind, it's okay to change history when it makes me feel good, but it's bad when they do it in a way that's just SJW pandering. Yep, 100%.

In case you hadn't noticed, that was satire.

I, for example, can't stand The Last of Us. I didn't like the gameplay myself, but I'm not stupid enough to say it's a terrible game. I don't think I'd like The Last of Us part 2 becuase I get the impression it sounds like 20+ hours of misery for the sake of misery. There's artistic merit in that, for sure, but it's not for me. that's the difference between my criticism of the game and the criticism it's getting from others like the ones depicted in this thread. I don't like it and it doesn't sound like it's for me, but that doesn't mean it's devoid of all merit and it CERTAINLY doesn't mean anyone deserved to be harassed.

I mean, I write kinky fantasy smut for a living. That shit is NOT for everyone. Some people hate it when I put actual plot in my porn stories, but that's my artistic license. ND has every right to tell the story they want to play. Critics loved it, MOST gamers are loving it, the overwhelming consensus among fans and the gaming media is that the game is an absolute masterpiece of storytelling and world building that doesn't adhere to traditional hero narratives. some people like that. some people don't. but the people who aren't whiny manchildren (and it's almost always men) who have an agenda agree that the game is good and artistically rich. There are plenty of popular games that get hate and criticism, but what we're seeing here is above and beyond. IT's acid. It's venom. It's poison. It's toxic.

There's a world of difference between "I don't like where they went with the story" and "They're terrible for doing this to the story and they should feel bad and I'm angry about it." Even the 'good' criticism of the game tends to come across as toxic and destructive instead of constructive or subjective.

Yep, it is important to separate the "I don't like this type of game" from "this type of game is bad" or anything similar to it. Artistic merict, objective measurement, etc is all over the top in greatness. But sure one may not like how it plays and that is totally fair (hating though is something strong and strange to feel about a game).

Also yes not liking how the game was done, or some elements of the story is also fine, but to not understand it and claim it is terrible and hate the story is also wrong. on RDR2 being historically correct or not I really don't know, but I would rather it was as precise as possible (of course except battle since that would break most games) even if it cause repulsion.
