Lead should only be growing from here on out.

Pretty much, I don't think Wii U even sells a million in the US from this point onwards, so it's all just 3DS now, and that was also passed its peak by year 4.

3DS peaked early and Wii U, well, it never had a peak. It had a mediocre launch and fell from there.

At this point I'm not sure if any system will sell as much as the 360 did in the US again.

Am I right in recalling that the 360 is third only to PS2 and DS there, lifetime?

Bet with Liquidlaser: I say PS5 and Xbox Series will sell more than 56 million combined by the end of 2023.

I believe so. Xbox 360 isn't even that far behind DS and PS2 in the US if I remember correctly. People forget how popular the Xbox 360 was in the US and despite how much Microsoft messed up this generation the Xbox One is barely behind the PS4 in the US. That is why I am predicting the Xbox Series X will outsell the PS5 in the US. Worldwide PS5 will (likely) sell better, but I see the gap being smaller than this gen.

It's definitely possible; so far their PR heading into launch has been much better than the trainwreck that was Xbone's run up to release. A lot is riding on the next few months though, Sony is bringing the heat and MS will need to show their box can compete.

Halo Infinite needs to be a big hit. If good enough it could be similar to what Breath of the Wild did to getting the Switch off to the right start. I also expect a new Forza at launch to showcase the power of the console. With no new Forza in 2019, it means the one for 2020 will have an extra year of development time.

Yeah a LOT rests on Halo Infinite. It can't be another Halo 5, it needs to win over both old and new players and get a glowing reception. Hopefully in the 5 years since they've had time to reconsider their approach.

Halo 5 wasn't all bad. I like some of the new gameplay mechanics and the multiplayer might be the best in the franchise. Now the campaign was the biggest issue. The story and level design left a lot to be desired.

I didn't play through it myself as I don't own an Xbone, I just know its reception from fans and critics wasn't as glowing as games like the original 3.
