Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Should The Xbox Controller finally incorporate a motion sensor?

I hate rumble. I have turned off whenever possible for the past 2 decades. That is what some might call a gimmick. You know what? I'm fine with it being there. Want to know why? because other people enjoy it and once again nothing wrong with options. Motion controls at least have some use where rumble doesn't but hey gaming is about fun so why would I argue about denying others how they want to enjoy a game? The options are great! Once again!

Because it means you pay more for something you don't want?

Adding extra things to a controller increases the cost. Companies are going to pass that increased cost on to the consumer, so you're paying more for it. Paying more for something you don't want is a bad thing. If you cared about options then you'd want it as an alternate controller so those that want it can have it, but those that don't want to waste money on things they don't like aren't forced to pay for it.

PS4 controller has a speaker, light bar, headphone jack, touch pad, internal battery, and motion controls.

In 2013, it cost exactly the same as an Xbox One controller that offered none of this.

And maybe without all of that the PS4 controller would have been $10 less than the Xbox controller...

Not likely, controls cost like 15 bucks to make, so the 50-60 they sell for is because people pay as much and not because one controller have more stuff than other. Even thirds party controllers of slightly less quality sell for 30 bucks.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

right now I'm using my ds4 for everything. ps4 itself, on pc, emulators especially cemu / dolphin with motion sensor, on switch with 8bitdo adapter. although I actually not the biggest fan of sony gamepads but this thing gets everything done. at some point down the line I'm going to sell my ps4 so I will have to give up on that gamepad. I'm not sure which gamepad will follow, but it should be one which can do all the things above. I propably won't buy ps5 for a long time.

my options are:
switch pro which has no analog triggers and a bad dpad
xbox without motion sensors
8bitdo sn30 pro+ which still got my hated analog stick design
rebuying ds4
dualsense

it will propably be dualsense but I would pick xbox with motion sensor in a heartbeat.

Perhaps your better option would be charge 20 less and not give away the controler.

A what? Like... Kinect? Nah, that's garbage. Don't want crap like that which will probably just make the controller more expensive. Would much rather have a cheap, reliable controller with good battery life *glares at Sony*.

Nope, what games even use motion controls (outside of 1st party stuff)?

Would make 0 sense to have it in multiplats this gen when Xbox doesn't support it.

You could blame it on because Xbox doesn't support it, although I'm fairly certain that even if it had it, very few if any 3rd party devs would actually make use of the gimmick features you get out of motion controls.

Edit: better yet, do any Sony 1st party games have motion controls at this point? GoW? Spiderman? Horizon? Bloodborne? etc...?

Until Dawn did. Also that Astrobot game has you use the regular DS4.

Well I could, but I do agree with you that very few 3rd party would use it even if Xbox had it. I just meant that when games are MP and one system doesn't have the feature it would be unlike that 3rd parties would put time on it since they go on the path of least effort.

Few Sony games really use it.
