Just a quick reminder that Nintendo games tend to be under represented in COMG, so they have a better ratio compared to other systems.

Oof, this again. Definitely not MH.

3DS

Monster Hunter X: 546

PS4

MH World: 855

Ever since the Switch, Nintendo first party games and some select third party ones have had an 1500 ratio(instead of the normal 1000) compared to PS4 games.

Not saying that this is guaranteed to happen, but Nintendo games(and exclusive games), recently at least, have had a bigger ratio than other games.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Read the above for example ratios. High ratios are more common now for all systems due to COMG losing stores.

Seems that I have been too long out of touch with the COMG thread. Thanks.

I was thinking more lifetime sales. It's possible Rise could open lower but have better legs.

I was writing a long response when my computer decided to spaz out and I had to restart...

Basicly its at 2,5+ physical (confirmed) and should be close to 4 mil including digital (estimate based on the 2019 fiscal year report and Iceborne master edition sales since then).

Cheers.

4 million in Japan shouldn't be insurmountable for Rise. Going by VGC numbers, Freedom Unite, Portable 3rd, and MH4 all sold more than that.

Not sure what numbers you are looking at but Freedom Unite did not do that.

VGChartz numbers: https://www.vgchartz.com/games/games.php?page=1&results=50&name=Monster%20Hunter&console=&keyword=&publisher=&genre=&order=JapanSales&ownership=Both&boxart=Both&banner=Both&showdeleted=&region=All&goty_year=&developer=&direction=&showtotalsales=1&shownasales=1&showpalsales=1&showjapansales=1&showothersales=1&showpublisher=1&showdeveloper=0&showreleasedate=1&showlastupdate=0&showvgchartzscore=0&showcriticscore=0&showuserscore=0&showshipped=0&alphasort=&showmultiplat=No

Hot damn someone still uses that old overview. Please check the box "Total shipped"

Also if you click on the game you can see the estimates got overwritten with shipment numbers as those are official. We don't delete the old stuff but shipments take priority obviously.

Freedom Unite only shippped 3.8M so VGC was way off here.

Ah, I see. So that just leaves Portable 3rd and MH4/U. Pretty sure Rise has a fair shot at beating those.

So what's the highest a third party Switch game has reached on COMG to date?

Marth answered this a couple weeks ago: https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=9222921

So the bestselling third party title to daye DQ XI S with 111 points, something MHR should do within a couple weeks or so.

After that, it will have to beat the top 10 Nintendo titles, starting with Kirby star allies with 126 points (unless Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity beats that score of course).

To go into more detail:

Monster Hunter Rise is just outside the 3rd Party Top 10 on Switch:

Rank (all Games)
Title
Points
1 (11) Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition 111
2 (13) Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization - Deluxe Edition 84
3 (15) Minecraft 83
4 (16) Yo-Kai Watch 4: We're looking at the same sky 77
5 (19) Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission 60
6 (21) Dragon Quest Builders 2 58
7 (23) Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet - Complete Edition 56
8 (26) Monster Hunter XX 51
8 (26) Octopath Traveler 51
10 (31) SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays Premium G Sound Edition 46

Momotaro, SMT 3 and Ryza 2 have chances to push the required points up but Rise will be ahead of them anyway.

Thanks; Rise reaching the top is guaranteed by it'll be interesting to watch it climb the ladder, and see how long it takes.

So is COMG a big player in the Japanese games retail sector?
