Nintendo Switch: Up in Europe and Rest of the World; Down in the U.S. and Japan; Up overall.

Interesting that Europe and ROTW, not typically Switch's strongest markets, are able to overpower the US and Japan and keep it up overall.

What I find interesting in RoW is that this year's sales are almost as big as those from 2017-2019 combined in those regions. Switch stays at ~9.55M total in RoW (which puts it already on the 6th spot, in front of the Wii and less than 3M behind the DS, the bestselling Nintendo hardware in RoW so far) while this year so far over 4.5M have been sold already.

I didn't realize Switch was already second only to DS as far as Nintendo systems in ROTW.

Goes to show I suppose that while Nintendo does have room to improve in ROTW compared to their strength in Japan and America, they are already making said improvement compared to their past systems.

Bet with Liquidlaser: I say PS5 and Xbox Series will sell more than 56 million combined by the end of 2023.

Hi @@Bofferbrauer Very insightful piece of data, I wonder how much of this can be attributed to China. This can definitely be a game changer for console sales records.

It also shows how much the RoW sales are increasing over the years, how little importance they had in terms of sales before the PS2 and how those mostly only knew the Playstations until shortly.

The PS2 is leading by far in RoW (25.6M, the only console above 20M so far in RoW) because it released there dirt cheap when the others already had the PS3 for a while. Next is the PS4, which built upon the success of the PS2, followed by the PSP and PS3; only after the PS3 comes the DS. Those 4 Playstation consoles sold more in RoW than all the others combined before the Switch arrived, and still are about the same as the the consoles combined when the Switch is included so far. But come next year, the Playstation phalanx will be broken, and it looks like China could be pushing Nintendos hybrid console to PS2 levels when all is said and done.

If Nintendo can get even close to PS2 numbers in ROTW that would be a phenomenal breakthrough for Nintendo, as that's typically been an area where they haven't thrived.

I mean, that even the PS3 did better than the DS in there says it all, ROTW has been a secret weapon of Sony for a long time, if Nintendo can tap into that to anywhere near the same degree Switch might actually have a shot at DS/PS2 type numbers globally lifetime.

I'm excited for switch's future. It's gonna be one of the most interesting journeys for a console in a while. I hope it reaches heights never before seen and that newer consoles from Sony. Nintendo and Xbox break records of the past including the switch's if it does cross the line. I want consoles to succeed and not get into stupid console wars. I don't want DS and PS2 to be the peak of consoles but ultimately a sign of grey things to come. I hope we get to a point where consoles selling 150mil+ is trivial and expected at some point.

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

Week 51 Breakdown:

PS4: Down in all regions.

Xbox One: Down in all regions.

Nintendo Switch: Down in the U.S., Europe, and Japan; Up in the Rest of the World; Down overall.

We've got just 2 weeks left for this year and the end is in sight. So here's what we might see in the finish line:

Final Year Projections:

PlayStation 4: 8,921,070 + Week 53

Xbox One: 3,010,489 + Week 53

Nintendo Switch: 27,720,032 + Week 53

Good showing by the Xbox One. Amazing performance by Switch. PS4 stumbles barely across the finish line.

All in relation to my predictions for the year made in early 2020. If I remember correctly, 2-3m for Xbox One, 18-22m for Switch, 9-11m for PS4.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

A Biased Review Reloaded / Open Your Eyes / Switch Shipments

I have a feeling PS4 numbers will be revised down by the next shipment numbers come in January.
