There are some videos of people on Youtube who don't even play much at all and even these people say 60fps feels much better than 30fps (without knowing which is the 60fps version). And PC gamers who play regularly have no problem to recognize the 120fps advantage in multiplayer games.
Fps is way more important for some stuff as graphics are even if it's the jump from 60 to 120fps and the much worse graphics you get.
And when I look at what people play all the time (many players "waste" most hours in competitive stuff) then I think there are a lot of people who would love to get that option on console.
Too bad the TVs aren't where PC monitors are if it comes to this.
