For all we know, Microsoft could be close to acquiring a few but they like to make a big song & dance about their acquisitions and wait for a special event, Tencent on the other hand (and Embracer) just announce their acquisitions like normal businesses, when they're done. There will be times where Microsoft is beaten to the punch in many acquisitions by both Tencent, Embracer and maybe NetEase, whoever has the most money isn't all that matters in these deals. Microsoft was lucky to start their acquisition spree early on but now there's some pretty big players in the market also looking for rapid acquisition growth. Those guys can offer lucrative stuff too, not only are they also billion dollar companies who can easily fund certain projects (so that wouldn't be a worry), they also allow the choice of remaining multiplatform, in some cases they do company share offers, they also have the same freedoms that Microsoft offers, it's known that Tencent is hands off with their (non-Chinese) studios and Embracer is essentially a holding company so they don't touch their studios either. Tencent will continue to rapidly invest into overseas because China is clamping down hard on them, antitrust lawsuits, banning certain things to do with Gaming which is going to hurt Tencent a lot, they're basically shooting them in the foot and so Tencent is going to start acquiring more overseas companies as a backup. I do think Platinum is a possibility, Tencent already owns shares in them, maybe Marvelous Inc as they also own shares in them. As for NetEase, I'm sad to see Nagoshi go, I'm sad that Sega basically can't do anything about it, NetEase is far richer, they can offer Nagoshi better pay, a bigger budget, a bigger studio, whatever he wants, Lol. But from my understanding Sega actually demoted him recently so I kinda don't blame him, I just hope it doesn't hurt Yakuza too much as there's few franchises still alive that Sega have that I care about, everything else is either dead, sucks or not on Xbox, their Western division is doing great admittedly but that isn't stuff I'm interested in, really. |
