Average went up, as expected. Critics continue to give pokemon a free pass, just cuz. In some of those reviews I see a 100, 94, 92, and 91. Tell me with a straight face that this game deserves that.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Or maybe the gripes some people are bringing up aren't that much of an issue to many of those who played the game.

I was a little surprised that the user score for Pokemon is 4.5 that doesn't feel right at all.

it's like people putting bad fan reviews to Captain Marvel just cause Brie Larson made some feminist comments. Honestly seeing people put a 0 to a game in general is stupid, make some good points and be objective and maybe the comment will be heard by gamefreak compare to just whining and putting 0 with "shitty game" as a comment.

Totally agree.

I could accept a 5 or 6 review from a customer (maybe even lower) because he really disliked this game, but 0-4 seem like totally unfair to almost any playable game.

Haven't played yet and possibly will take a while to buy, but considering the few pokemon I played even a 7 would be a low score for what the games usually have. They are fun, have a lot of content, pretty pokemon and all (even the low IQ and some lazyness of game freak didn't made the game bad in the past so I hardly see how it could become worse than "any pokemon game before").

Just seems like an odd comparison to me lol.  I mean they are both divisive, but thats about it.

I have been avoiding Death Stranding discussion tbh.  I do not have time to play a game that ties me to a TV right now, but I will be playing it at the end of the year and I do not want to be spoiled.  I have to use or lose my PTO for the year and I have yet to use any of it so I put in for it from Dec 21st through Jan 1st.  Seems like the perfect time if you ask me!

Yes it is an odd comparison and I don't know if when brought to DS was just to mock it that even with all the Hype and Kojima it would lose to pokemon.

The thread is spoiler free until the last page or so, don't worry to much. but there were a lot of "not good posts there", and from a quick look this thread also received a lot of flack from people that don't like Pokemon.

It went up? How??? But but but the game is unplayable!!! There is only 400 Pokemon

Seems almost the opposite behavior from DS thread =P

The game deserves personal good and bad opinions and even those in the middle,i'm sure the negative reviews weren't blocked out of this so tell me with a straight face why the overly good ones can't stay ?

And from an objective standpoint it still looks like a good game without bad practices.

It's Pokemon, everything released after  red and blue brought a fun samelike experience but not anything groundbreaking so this is not really a step back.

You can't possibly have been a Sonic fan and be more disappointed about Sw/Sh than you were about Sonic 06. Either that or you forgot.

Here is a true sonic fan talking about his experience with Sonic 06.

Let me tell you, even if I haven't played Sw/Sh, nothing in the videos I'm seeing (even the one above that points out its bugs) resembles this. :(

Regarding this thread, I see that some people equate defending exaggerated criticism of the game with blind defense.

At the same time, I see reasonable posts showing that attacks are unreasonable and out of proportion.

I invite everyone to keep a good dose of discernment when looking at all sides.

Both Sonic 06 and Sw/Sh are in a state that makes them unplayable to me, but Sw/Sh means future games will be like it, whereas that wasn't the case with 06. That's my opinion, if that makes me not a true Sonic fan to you, lol whatever.

It makes you primarily incapable of proper judgement. Sonic '06 was broken.

⚠️Calm down guys...

I'm seeing some bickering and back and forth happening here, had some reports too... just thought I'd drop by to ask those of you participating in such action to calm down otherwise we'll have to start handing out some moderations. If you disagree with someone, just move along or be respectful of their opinion and in how you reply.

Thanks!

Yeah, cause your opinion is the objective one. Understood, sir.

Pokémon sells two versions with like 3 trivial differences, even to this day, which has always been a cash grab. It's a bad practice since the start.

Yeah, but there's also review scores of 55 and 60. These ultra low review scores drag the average down harder than the scores of 100 or 90 bring it up. It takes two or three scores of 90-100 to counter one score of 55 or 60.

For example...

Let's say you have a game with three reviews. One is 100, one is 90, and one is 55. Well, that game's average review score comes out to 81.66/100. Even though there's two really good reviews, and one really bad review the score isn't that high. Now what happens when we add another score of 90? Well the average score goes up to 83.75/100. What if we add another score of 60 instead of that 90? Well now the average score is 75.6. Notice how adding another low score tanked the average? But adding another high score did not send the score skyrocketing upward? This just goes to show that a handful of really low review scores can tank the average.

Anyway as a whole, the critic consensus is pretty reasonable. As a whole they didn't give the game a free pass, and they didn't buy into the hate bandwagon either.

Uhhhhh... dude... unless the scores fall into a very narrow range, which is incredibly statistically unlikely, then by definition some scores are going to have to fall outside of what you feel is deserved.  That's just what tends to happen when you don't have a game reviewed by a hive mind. I would actually find it way more suspicious if every outlet had the same opinion and there were no outliers.

What are the last five games you bought?  Look them up on Metacritic.  Assuming they have more than a handful of reviews, let's say 25 is the minimum, which of those five games only have scores on Metacritic that you think are warranted?  I'd be shocked if any of them do.

10 hours in now and I have to say...when it comes to actually playing the game, there's no significant downgrades. I get that a lot of people are upset about Dexit and all, but there are so many improvements that I don't even care. 400 Pokemon is still a lot (Seriously, it's so much), and I can honestly say I haven't been THIS into Pokemon since Gen 5 (Black and White). why is that? Because this is the first time since Gen 5 I haven't been able to trade my pokemon forward and had to treat the game as its own, unique entity.

Things like the removal of random battles, the integration of the box link, the controls, the wild area/zone, the feeling of adventure, the simple but refined story, the well-developed world, etc...all of that help the game while dexit has, so far, had zero effect on me personally. To me, that was just eliminating a bunch of redundancy. Best I can tell, this is the Skyrim of the Pokemon series; sure, a bunch of the features and options/pokemon were pared down, but what is left is more refined and a lot more fun and functional.

IT's still way too early to know for absolute certain, but this might be my 3rd favourite gen, with 5 and 1 still edging it out.

For the life of me, I do not understand the hate. I get that people are upset about not being able to use Ekans or Hidden Power, but the things we got in exchange are just so, so much better. Sheer Volume of pokemon does not make a game good, especially if it means there's a bunch of redundancy. 400 is still a LOT of pokemon, and while there will always be some of your favourites that don't transfer forward (I lost my precious Garchomp), people need to stop thinking of Pokemon games as an expansion and start thinking of them as their own games, with each game picking and chosing from a list of Pokemon.

If no pokemon game ever has more than 500 again, I'd be happy with that. That said, I think if we got this game and a DLC pack with the remaining pokemon, it'd be the best game in the series, I just don't think it's necessary.

I got it all, baby!
