Welcome to the James Bond Rewatch!

We will be watching all 24 of the canon James Bond movies ahead of the 25th film: No Time to Die.

The rules are simple. We will watch one movie per weekend and discuss it -- how good/bad it is, how the rewatch compares to your first viewing, how it ranks within the larger Bond universe, etc.

I've reserved the second post in this thread for the timeline. If you fall behind, don't worry! You can play catch up or just watch the movies you want.

The third post is saved for our rankings. After each rewatch weekend, I'll ask for a score from each of you, and log it in the table below. Then we can look at the averages once we get to April 2020. For your score, please use solid numbers 1-10/10. No decimal points, please.

That's it for now! Thanks for participating!

Welcome to the Bond Rewatch, everyone! I look forward to going through the Bond canon and getting to discuss and rate the films here with as many people as possible. The Marvel Rewatch that Veknoid and I hosted last year was pretty enjoyable. It’s always nice to get a group discussion going. I look forward to getting to discuss Bond with those who take the time to join us. It’s a marathon so stay hydrated! Vodka martinis do not count.

Let me hop in ! I think it could be a nice experience to actually watch the whole franchise for once instead of tumbling into one of those occasionally on TV. From what I remember Casino Royale, License to Kill and GoldenEye were my favorites.

You’re in!

I'll participate. I wanted an excuse to see the remaining Bond movies I have left.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Come join The 2018 Obscure Game Monthly Review Thread.

Daniel Craig is the best Bond yet. Unfortunately, his era as Bond has been stricken with bad writing.

My favourites are Dalton and Craig.
Connery was alright, but I found his Bond character best in Dr. No, although From Russia With Love is my favourite Connery era Bond film, and On Her Majesty's Secret Service was one of my favourites despite having not so great of a Bond. Similarly, I also liked Moore in Live and Let Die, which I also liked a lot as a film, but not so much in later films. I am probably one of the rare people who enjoyed A View to a Kill, it is normally near the bottom of people's lists.

My favourite classic Bond era films are: From Russia with Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Live and Let Die, A View to a Kill.
My favourite modern era Bonds are Living Daylights, License to Kill, Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, Casino Royale, and Skyfall.

Overall, I prefer the darker modern films over the sillier classic films. Though I find them difficult to compare, there is a stark difference between the films from Dalton onward to the films from Roger Moore and earlier; they're almost like two different genres. GE007 has some horrendous dialogue, but I still find it to be a great film with a great villain.
Unfortunately, Bond has not been as consistently good as Mission Impossible: the worst MI film is MI2 which IMO is still a better film than the 4 other Bond films from the modern era. The remaining MI films like more as a group than my favourite modern Bond films.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I played a ton of Goldeneye back in the day, and eventually Agent Under Fire and Nightfire on the cube... But I don't think I've ever seen a Bond film. I know for a fact that I've seen parts of Casino Royale, but I can't remember much about the parts I saw. There's also a movie that I saw literally the last five minutes of, where I recall Bond at a drive-in movie theater at the end. May or may not be an accurate memory; could be some other movie.

Unfortunately this probably isn't for me, but I like this idea and so I'll give it a bump.
