I agree with Sean Malstrom, it won't work. Because it's something around the control and not the focus on an existing sports arcade mode, like Wii Sports. It is not a transposition that translates into an immersion activity by motion simulation. Remember more Kinect Adventures than Wii Sports.

Just like boxing, I like the looks of it, but it is too limited compared to something like Switch Fit.
But why does Nintendo keep giving us these vertical slices without some sort of central tracking system?

What I really want is a predictable goal-based application full of exercise routines updated for the Switch. While the adventure mode seems like it will be fun, I can't see it having longevity (I still play Wii Fit on Wii U at least 4 or 5 times a month, and maybe weigh in on it most days) due to the lack of predictability and customizability of the routines and experience. It looks like the progress based gameplay is not global (like Wii Fit U) but limited to the adventure mode which, to be fair, looks like something I wouldn't play more than a month (although I need to see more).

One thing I REALLY like about this is the Quiet Mode. I can clearly remember 1-4am nights where I spent a few minutes playing Wii Fit and then from the kid's room "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" -- That is a HUGE positive for me.

All in all, I like that they're finally putting more fitness applications on the Switch, but it feels like a step down from Wii Fit.

What I was REALLY hoping for with the Switch was a universal Fitness center (the central tracking system I discussed above) that collects activity using data from all of the apps and walking (since the Switch is mobile and presumably has some active processes in sleep mode). At the very least, a mobile app that allows data to be synced with the Switch. Nothing like that has come out, and it seems so obvious, especially over the last few years where fitness apps have been popular. As well, these sort of Wii Fit vertical slice apps would be much more appealing (as well as motion-based games in general). But that wouldn't mean I wouldn't want a more robust Switch Fit app as well. I'd love something to tell me how many calories I've burned, the level of light vs. heavy exercise, the number of people in games I have punched and how that translates to calorie burning, etc...

In short:

* Switch Health and Activity Center - collects data from all motion and fitness apps, including everything listed below:
* Switch Fit - customizable exercise routines updated for the Switch and more robust than the last Wii Fit U.
* Vertical Slice fitness apps - like Fitness Boxing and this Adventure Ring Experience.
* Motion games - like ARMS, Wario Ware, Wii Sports, Rock Band, Just Dance.

This idea is much better than nintendo had. Integrate everything, including the motion control games you use. And launch a Switch Sports as well, such as new modalities and local and online game integration.

Looks a lot better than I thought it would. I'm not the target audience, but I'm happy it exists.

The presenters in the video though, I'm scared they're going to eat me in my sleep.

Very interesting.

Did they announce the price? I think I missed it. If they didn't announce the price it's likely because it's gonna be expensive.

$80 for the game+ring+strap. Not that bad actually.

Gonna have to assume that's USD so I'll be looking at $100 CDN. That may be slightly out of range of what I want to pay. Maybe I can strike a deal on Amazon.

Can't we just get a new Wii Sports Resort instead? This doesn't seem to have a really clear audience...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I would very much like a Switch Sports Resort. This is really what Switch is missing currently.

This doesn't seem like something that would appeal to the same people as Wii Fit. It looks a lot more niche. More interesting to gamers but less interesting to others.

So you think using Miis in a fitness party style game would suit that audience more than this?

probably the most interesting switch game ive see announced for the platform

are you seriously saying this is the most interesting switch game on the entire switch platform? Or just for the motion aspect of the system?

I am weirdly interested by this game. This is far more interesting than anything the series has seen.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Wow...color me impressed with where this ended up going. Kudos to Nintendo for getting us used to the whole ring/strap concept in the first place. I absolutely think that showing the peripheral and the game at the same time would have been too much info/wtf at the same time. Like others, I do fear that both of these concepts (fitness/adventure rpg) are going after a different audience, but I'm also intrigued whether there might be a few people who will find it an easy transition between the two. I sincerely doubt Nintendo needs to sell 5 million of these to make a profit. I think they'd be happy enough with 1-1.5 mil. And I'm definitely interested in seeing whatever follows this title.

edit....

There are even simple mini game modes and normal fitness routines.  Yeah, I just finished watching the video.  They could have easily inverted the presentation to focus more on the fit.  I do have a feeling in the future we will see a shorter commercial that almost doesn't mention the adventure mode.  This one seems like it's aimed at us particularly and is showing gamers how this could be a fun idea for them.

Also...October 18th!  Wow...Nintendo sure are great at keeping things under wrap.  This is almost a shadow drop.  It's like they've got their console division, handheld division, quirky peripheral division, and fitness division all working together to deliver nonstop new experiences.  I honestly don't think we have any concerns about droughts for this system.  The games might not always be what you want to play, but there will be a steady stream.
