Yep, I find it very hard that PS4 will sell less than 120M. I think even Wii with monstrous drop sold 9M after the announcement of WiiU.

I expect between 108M and 120M sold by the time the PS5 releases; based on a March 2020 or Nov 2020 release respectively.

As for sales after the PS5 releases, I expect the droop to be more than it has ever been in playstation history. So say around 15M of extra sales spread out through 2021 to 2023 after which I expect the PS4 t be discontinued, which should bring its Lifetime total to around 123M to 135M.

The reason for this drop will be BC. I believe the PS5 will have BC with the PS4, PS3, PS2 and PS1.

More importantly BC means that current PS4 owners will have very little reason to hold onto their PS4s. That means a lot, because as the rapid uptake of PS5 begins over its first 2 years there will also be a marked increase in used PS4s and PS4pros on the market. These used consoles will no doubt be cheaper than whatever price the PS4 will officially be at the time. We are talking people being able to get a PS4 for as little as $130 and a Pro for as little as $220. That will no doubt affect sales of brand new hardware.

I also expect the PS5 initial uptake (first 3 years) to be even more aggressive than that of the PS4. Even though I expect the PS5 will come at a launch price of $499.

Drop higher than PS1 and PS2 is very likely, but it may not be higher than PS3 drop due to it still being high priced and very lengthy gen. All else is quite possible expectations.

A price reduction of the PS4 would hardly be possible. You must not forget how much technology is in the console today. Would it ever as cheap like the PS2, Sony deserves (no money) nothing. PS: Let's see when the first sales figures from Japan appear (RE2 Remake + KH3 Release):)

"The Last of Us 2" is officially Game of the Year 2020, worldwide. Ghost of Tsushima-Artwork:

120M are for sure :)

If PS3 got under 199 with cell that was quite exclusive design and BD drives were more expensive at the time. PS4 can certainly reach 149 if Sony wants.

They really cheaped out on that PS3 sku to get it down to $199, it only had 12gb storage and had that flimsy sliding cover.

I dont see Sony making that poor of a PS4 revision. I'm thinking $199 will be the lowest PS4 ever gets down to but with significantly more storage and a higher quality build.

You may not see, and I don't have anything to say you are wrong. That is the reason I said if Sony want to do it. They could even go crazy and sell for 99 while costing 149 if they see it as a way to tail it out if PS5 is BC and just capture some late buyers on the platform to get PS+ revenue.

Its kinda possible. But......

The essentials are APU/RAM/HDD/BRD/Controller. Now at best (and this is being very optimistic) it cost them like $20 fr each f those components. Thats already $100 right there and you have not factored in other things like cooling/assembly/packaging/cables/PSU/PCB/Supporting chips and memory.......etc.

And remember, that $100 is being extremely generous because the APU/RAM/BRD/BRD all cost n less than around $25 each. Definitely not $20.

Best they can do if they really want to butcher the system is take out the HDD and put in like 256GB emmc nand flash drive (and the cheap slow kind) and d away with the disc drive.  Maybe then they can get it to $99.

Guess you skipped a little... sell for 99 what would cost 149 to make. Get the profit from added PS+ customer, SW and capturing people for PS5 in the future.

Nobody sells hardware at a loss late in a consoles life, that's a strategy for the first couple years.

This pretty much confirms Spiderman is more than 10M sold to consumers worldwide...what a success....

No kidding. Its selling as well as BotW or Odyssey. Sales number like those pretty much confirm a sequel! And Insomniac has always been good at pumping out sequels. They've usually managed a new Ratchet and Clank every two to three years.
