Sony is going all out in China and I'm here for it. Word has it that their deal with Genshin Impact (which was initially thought by some to be a cheap BotW knock-off that no one took seriously) is influencing Microsoft to also invest in Chinese projects which is awesome. They're also publishing Stellar Blade from Korea.

If only Sony gives small/mid sized Japanese teams as much attention and help expand them... but I guess those teams generally don't have the ambition to develop console games in the first place, and are more interested in the mobile phone market. Sony's own Lasengle (Fate Grand Order developers) is very much mobile only, how cool would it be if Sony were to make a Fate game with a similar scale to Genshin Impact and higher production values and graphical fidelity?

I know my friend would be head over heels for a high production version of Fate.

I'm something of a Fate/Nasu fan myself, having watched Stay Night, UBW, Extella + Link (via playthroughs), Kara no Kyoukai (which has two characters playable in FGO, both in my top 5 Nasuverse waifus!), and enjoyed FGO for the few weeks I played it before feeling overwhelmed by all the convolutions and deep lore.

Gacha stinks (didn't spend a cent on FGO) but it made the parties involved an obscene amount of money. I think FGO grossed over $5.1 billion in Japan alone and is still going strong. To put things into perspective, GTA5 (including online/mtx) grossed 7.8 billion globally at 170 million+ copies sold. $5.1 billion is the equivalent of 85 million copies sold at $60 (in Japan alone lol). A Genshin-like version has serious potential.

Isn't the japan revenue in billion Yen? Otherwise this would be fucking huge, well even in yen for a game that is likely on high profit margin against maintenance cost that is very healthy. And yes I abhor this type of mtx and the few games I play I don't put a cent as well, and exvius I'm able to keep top 1000-10000 in all events.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

It grossed $6.3 billion as of August, 81.2% of that was from Japan:

It's a phenomenon that may exceed $7 billion lifetime in Japan alone.

Fate/Grand Order is one of the biggest mobile games on the planet.

Single biggest game on Twitter in 2018 and 2019

Man spends $70,000 on Fate/Grand Order, game likely makes $2.5 million a day

>In 2018, it grossed at least ¥134.8 billion ($1,228 million), including ¥120.4 billion in Japan (where it was the year's second highest-grossing mobile game)[33] along with ¥14.4 billion overseas during the first half of the year

It's massive, but mostly in Japan.

Yeah it's ridiculous, on a whole other level from what's considered "massive" in Japan on a console scale. It wouldn't surprise me if Sony make a "console grade" live service game based on Fate (high tier mobile game souped up for consoles and PC, like a more advanced Genshin Impact). I recall them mentioning their intent to use Lasengle's expertise as well as Bungie's to help other developers working on live service games. Sony plans 12 of those to release by 2025.

It's refreshing to see them increasingly tap into Asia. Hopefully it extends to their home market!

That could push sales of PS5 in Japan as well.

God of War Ragnarok has sold through 5.1M copies in its first week. Sony first party strength continues to grow.

What I said in the thread.

31 million on Switch

26 million for PS5

18 million Xbox Series

It's incredible PS5 can keep up while Switch library is massive with exclusives while PS5 exclusive library is like 2 years I know Ratchet and clank Rift apart is exclusive .
