Yeah they should work. I plan on storing and playing my PS4 games on my 512GB USB thumb drive which basically works like an SSD but any external HDD should work. Bearing in mind some games like Cyberpunk (next gen version) might require an SSD to work.

What I plan on using -

A bit overkill but I haven't had much use of it since I bought it and its relatively fast and out of the way when plugged in at the back.

This is an interesting alternative until SSDs are cheaper.

Regarding bold: Will you get some of the same benefits with this as you would with an NVMe M.2 SSD?

From what we know the USB port for external drives on PS5 is slower than the NVMe M.2 so you won't be able to run PS5 games from external drives (you will need to transfer to internal NVMe or use the original memory). Now comparing a USB Stick to SSD (be it NVMe in capsule or any other way through USB) it will mostly depend on speed, but for PS4 gen games it possibly will be all similar.

PS5 might support 1440P displays. BenQ let this one slip - https://wccftech.com/ps5-1440p-resolution-support-might-be-in-according-to-benq/

Man, hope this is true.. this is my most requested feature from PS5 xD

My TV is 4k without 1440p so I don't need this =p

God of War confirmed to get a 60FPS boost at launch as well.

Will we be able to get another plat for the BC titles? And besides 60fps will God of War be 4k? They could also add some RT on it S2.

PS store - Assassins creed Valhalla

PS4 version - buy PS4 and get PS5
PS5 version - buy PS5 get PS5

Both the same price.....so question is why would anyone buy the PS5 only version when you can get it on both esp as 100million ps4's are going to still be in use in homes.

For those who don't know, Yakuza 7 version for PS5 will be available on March 2021.

I think only games with a dedicated next-gen version will have a separate plat so the BC God of War probably won't.
If they have a dedicated PS5 version planned, they'll probably save 4K+RT and go all in upgrading that.

I see why collectors or resellers (PS5 version would keep its value for longer) would prefer to have the PS5 version but buying on PS Store, I'd definitely just get the PS4 version as well. That way you can also share with friends/family that play on PS4.

It is sad. If no trophies duplication will be possible (several cross buys had this option, to have trophies for 2 systems) then I probably won't play much of the BC.

If we were talking about physical it could be discussed buying the PS5 version (even if just to not need to download patches), but digital for same price of course buying PS4 version is a better option, but I bet it will be time limited.
