Forums - General Discussion - Is the Oculus GO just a $200€ VR porn device?

I thought that too until I seen the difference between gear VR and PSVR and then again recently with Samsung odessy (Which I haven't watched porn on but I know from the media it will be a night and day difference)

That is why I think Oculus GO is a porn device, it is a step head of PSVR for media quality, almost nearing PCVR levels. Sure, you can say it is a device meant for productivity and social applications but what do people use their laptop for more, Conference calling or Porn?

That's blasphemy on this site.  PSVR owners don't like hearing that there is a noticeable visual difference between PSVR and the higher end VR devices.  I own the Oculus Rift, and my best friend has PSVR.  I mentioned on this site that my friend and his wife were both amazed by the difference when we tried each others devices and I was proverbially stoned in the village square.

I use both my Oculus Rift and my PSVR regulary and I still have the opinion that the visual difference between these HMDs is negligible. Both have their advantages and disadvantages: the Rift has the slightly higher resolution and with a good GPU can use supersamling in much more games, but the PSVR has more subpixels, a cleaner image and less screendoor effect thanks to true RGB instead of a Pentile matrix... all in all its a tie.

The true advantage of the Rift over PSVR (and Vive and Vive Pro) are its touch controllers. I also like all those sales and free weekends in the Oculus Store (this weekend the RTS "Brass Tactics" and the great compatibility to the Steam library (Windows mixed reality headsets only support a fraction so far) with its own sales and free weekends.

On PSVR I love the exclusives... had a great time with Moss last week and with Wipeout VR this week.

My PC is pretty weak but if it can somehow support this device, I would buy it. Not willing to go all in on a  new  PCwhen I'm not going to use many of the features. Aside from gaming (which I've actually never tried), I can do pretty much whatever I want with the devices I currently have.

It's a standalone device. No need for PC or a phone, its built in. It's only supports 3 degrees of freedom controllers though. Perfect for porn with at least psvr quality.

Sold!!

porn device will sell more than a gaming device though.

"Why not both?"- Some Japanese lewd gaming company, probably.

"lupus in fabula, venit enim ad me."

Translation: I will always hate Fox for canceling The Exorcist.

Personally I'd wait for the Lenovo Mirage to drop to below 300 and just add a few extra quid to your budget, I've seen it nearing it here in Ireland and I'm almost sure I seen it hit 300 dollars somewhere, that device boasts more beefy internals capable of 6 degree's of freedom controller and gaming, enough for all daydream mobile games atm and is a better device for porn also, maybe even getting some of those crisp clear, 5k ChezkVR porn videos that seem so real you can almost smell and taste the experience ^^. Or just go for the PSVR if you have a playstation for 300 quid, The future support is amazing, titles are releasing weekly and it has at least a dozen must play games if not more and If you have a pro you're getting PCVR quality porn with littlstar, easily able to support the 6k plus VR porn videos teased by various sites supposedly coming out in the next few months, they keep one upping each other in terms of quality and production so future proofing is the best way to go. You just need a thumb drive and a bit of patience downloading the porn, lol.

I've got a PSVR and it's cool when it comes to gaming and YouTube. You have to move heaven and Earth to watch porn on it and even then, you don't know what you're getting until you download it, transfer it to a USB device, and then view it through the media player.

I am a fan of VR though this might actually be less immersive, but more convenient. $200 is "impulse buy" range so even if it sucks, I won't feel too hurt by it. I think I'll like it, though--especially if the controls are good.

The controls with this controller can't be that good:

Only a small touchpad + 1 trigger button + 1 "back" button limit the things you can adjust without going through bloated menus of the video player (I don't count the home button since it can only leave the app without other functions).

And there are a lot of things within 180° or 360° videos you want to adjust, preferably without going through menu overlays which obstruct the vew on the content:

First you have to choose the correct format. Is it a 360° video or a 180° video? Is is stereoscopic side-by-side, stereoscopic top-to-bottom or 2D mono without depth? This can be done by properly renaming the video files, if the video app supports that. Otherwise you have to choose the format for every video within the app.

But there are a lot of other tweaks you want to adjust on the fly:

  • tilting the camera up or down
  • zooming in or out
  • recenter the view
  • IPD adjustments (interpupillary distance)
  • turning on/off "fisheye" (some videos are distorted if you use the wrong setting)
  • seeking within the video (fast forward, pause, rewind...)
  • skipping to the next/prevous video in the folder

Here are the settings you can adjust without opening menus in my favorite VR video app (Deo VR):

They forgot to label LB (previous video) and RB (next video). The button layout with Oculus touch controllers is similar.
