Forums - Gaming Discussion - What's the most overrated game ever in your opinion?

Every Smash Bros. game ever made.

Okami comes to mind. Was rated extremely good, but I stopped playing after 9 hours in the game because I thought it was boring... Please don't stone me.

The Last of Us.

I can only guess the target audience are people that have never read Children of Men/The Road and thought Uncharted had too much gameplay.

7/10 at most

I regret making this my username, I made this name when I was 13 years old

Life could always get worse, you could be a mod for Neogaf

Exactly. Took the words right out of my mouth.

You just said that devs don't make as many story-driven games anymore. A lot of them being bad doesn't take away the fact that there have never been so many story-driven games being made. People saying that The Last of Us is overrated doesn't stop anyone from making story-driven games, that's stupid to think.

Sorry, I should have emphasized "GOOD" story driven games. "People saying that The Last of Us is overrated doesn't stop anyone from making story driven games"

No it doesn't, it'd be silly to think that. But you'd be lying to yourself if you said that AAA Developers aren't weary about making story driven games. Especially in this market. Telltales "Walking Dead" games was a nice renessaince, but it was short winded and didn't sway developers' caution surrounding story driven games that were dime a dozen in the 90's.

The Witcher 3
Slow as hell and boring sloppy gameplay without progression

"Souls" series and "The last of us" come to mind.

I honestly think that's a good thing. There's a niche for story-driven games, but the main feature of games is their gameplay, so it's only natural that AAA developers focus more on that than on a good story, that can also be conveyed by movies or books.

For me, a Telltale game is equivalent to a movie that consists only of still images and text. They're missing the point of the media.

G O O D B O I

The last of us i think.

Animal Crossing is another one I can't get into, just super boring

I'll just go with some exclusives from each hardware manufacturer along with some 3rd party franchises to balance things out:

Nintendo:  Pokemon, Splatoon, and Animal Crossing are highly overrated.

Microsoft:  Halo after the first 2 games and Gears of War are two of the most overrated series in gaming IMHO, and have been even more and more disappointing with each installment.

Sony: God Of War, Uncharted, LBP all highly overrated.

3rd Party:  Metal Gear, Crash, Final Fantasy + about 95% of JRPGs.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
