I know a certain user really appreciates this, since he seems to be really popular with bots. xD

Just another update to this thread...

The REAL reason for doing this in the first place, was because the bots were getting "smarter" in that they were using disposable email addresses to get around the user verification check during registration. I've just now, added an email validation check to the registration process - it's a 3rd party API that is used for detecting disposable email addresses. Hopefully, this will stem the tide for now (until these jack-offs come up with the NEXT way to get around registration processes!!!).

Obviously, bots that are already in the system are here until they've become discovered and are banned. But NO NEW ONES should be created...

Let's see how long this lasts now.

And this is the reason why I voted for you in this year's best user comp. :D

Thanks, and keep up the good work!

...unfortunately, it's like dealing with computer viruses. The faster we come up with solutions to prevent this type of stuff, the faster these asshats come up with ways to bypass - it's a never-ending game!!!

Hopefully, this will curtail the problem for a little while at least, as I can tell you that all of the people who have been getting harassed via PM were absolutely the target of a person (or bot) that was using disposable email addresses (something I didn't even know existed, until now!!). Granted - these disposable email services are pretty neat in their own right (you just hit a website, it requires NO registration of its own, and drops you right into an inbox with a brand new email address that works for a short while), but anybody attempting to use one of these addresses to register here is not doing so because they are a legit user. They are solely here to either harass people, or spam the website in general - period.

And they will now have to find a new way to annoy us, because this door has now been CLOSED!!

Well - I personally think we've made GREAT strides in getting this crap to STOP!! Since I came back, I've done the following:

1 - Corrected the issue with the "click me" email not generating

2 - Corrected the registration process that allowed users who did NOT respond to the "click me" email, to continue to use the site regardless - and I booted any user from the site, that hadn't done the "click me" email, too!!

3 - Moved to the latest CAPTCHA version

4 - Added a check for temporary or disposable emails

I honestly cannot imagine what else we can possibly do, to stop this stuff!!!!
