I think that is obvious to anyone with at least a lick of taste.

I played neither, so I'm in the dark. Also, do the people know if they're the one with taste or not? In case they are not sure if they are in the group with taste, they also cannot decode your statement. And maybe some in the group lacking taste THINK they have taste, so they minterpret your statement totally.

So, after all, your post leaves a lot open to clarification.

It's actually really hard to convince people without taste that they don't have taste. Believe me, I tried it, but now I'm just an unwelcome guest in Nintendo threads. So even if I told you, it probably would not make much of a difference. It's not like you could acquire taste if you don't have the inherent potential. At least I haven't seen someone yet able to do so. And as you said, it's difficult to tell because some people actually have fun with the correct games despite a complete lack of taste.

I won't indulge any further in this, because I fear the wrath of the tasteless.  It is quite apparent which I categorize as which if you look at my posts and threads.

FFVI is the better game, hands-down. The style and world of Chrono Trigger never appealed to me. I'm not a Toriyama fan and never was which is why I probably drastically preferred Chrono Cross which was a stunning videogame.

CT just had a story that I never wanted to really care about. I tried so many times to get into and WANTED to like it but I just can't really without just wanting to stop. FFVI however is carried by its powerful storytelling. In fact, one just has to witness the opera scene to realize how on earth were they able to create such emotion using pixels of the SNES era???

Chrono trigger, granted i've never beaten FF6...or gotten past the first hour, its just far, FAR more dated in feel and combat and expression, etc.

I just beat chrono trigger again in december and it reminded how amazing the game is.

Really tough decision. I'm gonna have to go with FF6, though. I got in on the ground floor with the Final Fantasy series (at least as much as I could have, living in North America, though I did get some ROMs of FF2, FF3, and FF5 fairly early on), and FF6 just seemed like the perfection of the series up to that point. I even think it's probably the best game Squaresoft ever made.

Chrono Trigger is REALLY close, though. What a great era for Squaresoft. They could do no wrong in the 16 bit era.

I care not for Toriyama either, but I can accept your points about the games in general anyway - not necessarily agree though

It is true however, that few things at all in gaming compare to the FF VI Opera scene.

Chrono Trigger. FF6 is only considered better to those with rose tinted glasses. In every respect, CT is superior
