Forums - Gaming Discussion - May get a Switch—my first ever Nintendo home console—UPDATE: GETTING ONE FOR CHRISTMAS!

UPDATE:  I’M GETTING A SWITCH FOR CHRISTMAS!

So I am strongly considering buying a Nintendo Switch by the end of the year. As the title states, it would mark the first time I ever bought a Nintendo home console (only Nintendo system I’ve owned was the original game boy). I owned the Sega Genesis, PS1, then the Dreamcast. Skipped the ps2/Xbox gen, then got back into games with ps3, and currently I have a PS4 and an XBO.

I considered getting a Wii U a few years ago, but I ultimately decided against bc the console itself did not seem great (good decision I think). But the Switch seems really sweet, and I’m tired of hearing all the damn hype surrounding so many of Nintendo’s exclusives! :) So...I have a few questions, if anyone is willing to answer.

1. Should I buy a Switch now, or wait for a deal on BF or closer to Christmas? I feel like Nintendo doesn’t often do major discounts or bundles. So would I get the same deal now as I would during BF/the holidays?

2. I realllly would like to play the old Super Mario Galaxy games. Can I buy these and other prior-gen Nintendo games digitally on the Switch/Nintendo store? Or is the Switch BC?

3. Will I be able to enjoy Zelda BotW if I’ve never played a Zelda game before?

4. Is there any peripheral or anything else I have to buy other than what comes with the Switch? I’ve heard people talk about some alternate controller? Not sure what that’s about...

Sorry I know so little about Nintendo/the Switch. But thank you in advance for any and all answers! :) And any other tips or useful info you want to share is welcome as well!

1. I'd assume you should just buy it now - but a random game or two might be on sale or in a bundle.

2. Unfortunately no, to both

3. Yes! In fact it's very different from old Zelda's. Unfortunately, it might be harder to go back to prior entries after it.

4. You should buy a Pro Controller! The joycon grip is so small for most western male hands!

Too worthless to live, too scared to die.

1. Buy it now, they are no gonna cut the price anytime soon.
2. Nope
3. Yes, definitely.
4. The most important is a good Micro SD card because Switch comes with limited memory, if you want to play digital and third party games you are gonna need one sooner or later. A screen protector would be recomendable too.

1) Switch probably won't have any sales on Black Friday. The Black Friday ads we have seen so far still list the Switch at $300

2) No BC yet

3) Yes you will enjoy it, BOTW doesn't really make any type of past story references and the gameplay is very new user friendly. And the game is vastly different from past Zelda's.

4) There is no peripherals that are required for Switch. But I would highly recommend a Pro-Controller, screen protector and a Micro-SD card.

Really?? Is there any talk to make their older games available? Getting to play SMG 1/2 was one of my top reasons for wanting a Switch:(

They keep saying vague stuff like "We hear the demand for virtual console(their backwards compatibility online shop)" but won't comment on when it's coming and what's coming. It's really depressing. It will probably come, when  though? Who knows. Sorry ...

"HomeConsole"

I can see some users get triggered by it xD

1. Should wait. I have stores that does include a gme for cheaper price.

2. Idk

3. Yes. I was like that too. If you like RPG/Adventure games then you will like this

4. Nah. Pro controllers are very expensive for now. Just try how you feel with the Joycons

Why? Bc Switch acts as both a home console and a handheld?

It always amazesnme when people say this is their first Nintendo console. But things are different these days and even back in the day people could have been Sega or PC only.

Hope you enjoy it.
